why the hell do i get stunned in combat

So sometime when you fight you get into a sword clash, and need to press X
i do that but i still ALWAYS fail and get stunned after

The timing is so hard to get it right, forget about winning this mini game.

I've gotten it right once and a "draw" (where both characters just back up) twice.
I've probably done 40 or so clashes, so odds are bad.

I think the speed/duration of the prompts needs to scale with the attack stat of the character you're fighting.

Pretty pathetic that the "Great Swordsman" kept getting whooped in a sword clash by Silica...

I'm currently at chapter 2, finished all the duels up until now (including with all returning characters). Out of all those, I clashed 4 times, and won once (If you win, same thing happens with the enemy, a super long stun.) Anyway, it's all about timing, and not pressing X additional times, from what I can tell. If you're just mashing it, you fail automatically. It's absurdly close timings, but shouldn't be too important at least for early fights.

its extremely easy to do once you get the timing right, the timing will never change, any clash you ever get will be the exact same timing, i got it down after like 20 clashes and now i never lose any clash anymore.

iv had some trouble with them but haven't kept count of button presses cuz i tend to forget stuff that happens in the moment. how many attack prompts show up for a clash? that way ill know how many times to press the button and just rely on rhythm
