Player population per platform?
So with all the online content that will be pumped into the game on a regular basis I was curious which platform would have the higher pop.

I've searched up a few sources and even cross referenced them, game stat(console) vs steam app(PC) for example and the information seems to consistently say consoles have the larger pop. The biggest Issue I see with these numbers is that it even says Warframe is more popular on console and that did not seem the case when I played.

Anyone have any more reliable sources or experiences promoting PC will have a larger and stable player base than PS4? Any help would be appreciated to help me make my purchase choice.

So if you want to play on the largest platform PS4 probably is your best bet. But I think the PC player base has increased since the first SAO games were released on pc. And is reflected by FB, you shouldn't have too hard of a time in finding others to play with.

Also while player count may be larger on consoles, communications is easier on PC due to discord and steam, so if you were to find a group/community you'd have people to play with regularly.

That has never been the case for SAO games.

playing on console is wack unless the game is like dead on PC ( i doubt it) PC is gonna be the way to go idc about specs or 30-60 fps crap its just much more convenient

They asked what platform will most likely have the largest playerbase, not which will be the most convenient.

Thanks to everyone for the replies so far, I'll restate that yes long term population is my focus as wonderfully answered by Sando.

PSN monthly fee isn't a concern partially because I don't pay it due to game sharing, secondly I'd have it anyway to play exclusives (mainly eastern titles like Nioh) and fighting games on the console.

Performance isn't a big concern for me, even if it was then my concern would be towards the PC version considering the recommended is very high for now. I don't know much about PCs but I'd be playing on a HDD with Ryzen 5 1400 quad 3.20 GHz, 16GB RAM, RX 570.

So an example of my fear would be Resident Evil 6 mercenaries, can't just randomly hop on and get a simple duo going even when the game is on sale at various times of day even though it has around 50-70% of Fatal Bullet's player count.

SAO: FB sales exceeded 1,000,000 copies. According to Steam Spy, at least 500,000 PC copies have been sold. Thus, the PS4, Xbox and Switch also account for about 500,000. Why is PS4 the largest platform?

Is there a date associated with the numbers because currently a site tells me 750,000 people played it at least once on PS4 (includes gamesharing I'm guessing since it goes by account/achievements), could be wrong but I'm curious also.

Ah, helpful source thanks. 2019 though where as my PS4 source, https://gamstat.com/games/Sword_Art_Online_Fatal_Bullet/, is current month so the PC probably has a lot more by now.

I believe that at least 150,000-250,000 copies have been sold for Xbox and Switch, and then the total volume would have exceeded 1,5 million copies sold (on Steam, too, 500,000 has long been indicated as a minimum), but I do not find such a message...
Again, the PC park is incomparably larger (although, unlike the PS4, not all PCs are used for games)... Statistics are tricky...

Remember those PS4 numbers aren't sales, those are people who booted it up on their system, so while it's most definitely inflated (650k around the same 2019 dates) those are still "potential" players to group with.

Yeah, that’s what I hinted at.

If they actually put real effort into the multiplayer and follow through with their promise of maintaining it then I can see it being populated on pc.
