- if DirectX update above didn't solve your issue, then you can try running the game on Win XP SP2 compatibility mode. to do that; find CoDWaW.exe where the game is installed on disk (same directory as mentioned above) and right click at it. then click properties and go to compatibility tab. there you can select "Windows XP Service Pack 2" from the list. lastly, click apply and then OK to complete the process. if you experience the same problem when playing multiplayer part of the game, you also need to repeat the same process for CoDWaWmp.exe.
- if none of the above helped, then you can watch the video below and do the same. hopefully, this would fix the issue, once and for all.

if it's a family shared game between separate steam accounts, you can consult steam support again and tell about the issues you've had while playing. not guaranteed to happen, but if the people checking support tickets is reasonable enough, they should authorize this refund request.
I have just given up on getting a refund and just want to get this fixed. I'll post a link to the crash log and if anyone can help that would be awesome. pastebin.com/eQzSMVyz
by default, campaign saves for CoD: WaW are located at;
Local Disk (C:) / Users / your windows username / *AppData / Local / Activision / CoDWaW / players / profiles / your in-game profile name / save
* while searching for the directory above, if you couldn't see AppData folder, which is normally hidden in windows; you need to enable the visibility of hidden files/folders on windows first. check this link if you don't know how it's done: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/view-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-10-97fbc472-c603-9d90-91d0-1166d1d9f4b5

additionally, make sure your graphics and audio drivers are updated. even if the game is pretty old, it can occasionally give weird errors if they aren't updated.
