game wont let me switch graphics

everytime i try to switch the aspect ratio, quality etc, the game does a weird thing of going into my main computers home screen, and locking up, i can alt tab but i cant control anything, i cant close, open exit anything, task manager doesnt even work, i dont want to play the game in 1200xwhateverP its locked into cause its horrible to look at, any ideas?

are you in a game campaign, zombies or multiplayer? if so u have to leave the game and change the settings in the main menu.

yes im in the main menu when i try to switch the video settings, but it still just tabs out the game and locks my pc up.

i have the game disabled in my AV maybe try doing that

tl;dr:
Go to C:/users/(computer name)/appdata/localactivision/CoDWaW/players/profiles/(active player profile)
open config.cfg

Find the line that starts with:
seta r_mode

Change resolution to what you want. Eg.
seta r_mode "1920x1080"
