Its something with puddles and then statues come up. With a ray gun you can use it any way you want. For troops or the tanks that esy you can still clear the mission and continue.
About the bug itself i dont know muvh about how it does that. And did not even know that it was a thing.

you need to get the raygun just as shown in the video above. there should be four muddy puddles as you land on the beach. just hop into them in order (from right side towards left side) and wait for a couple seconds in each. you'll see some lion statues appearing as the ground shakes, then press F to take the raygun from any of them.
at the end of that campaign level, raygun shots are also able to destroy enemy tanks, so they can also be used for this purpose, instead of calling rocket strikes.
