Randomly acquiring information

So I just finished the poker game and have arrived at the gym the next morning at the request of Sonia to find it burgled. I opened my notebook to check some notes picked up during the poker game and found that I have info that I've never actually earned in game.

A few things sprung to mind.

Firstly, this fake Dr Palmer I met in the hospital. One of Dunn's partners during ww2? Where did this come from? I hadn't mentioned the guy to anyone much less drawn any connection between him and Dunn during ww2 or otherwise.

Second, Thorpe hasn't seen him in a while. Well I sure as hell didn't ask Thorpe about him so no idea how I made that deduction. I guess that's a conversation you can have?

Third, I have no idea who the New York Warriors or Craig Spannow are and yet, he has an entry in my journal. Again, he's tied to Dunn via WW2, a subject that literally has not come up yet beyond Blacksad's convo with the goat beggar. It even mentions another guy called Angus Mitchell, again, a name that has yet to arise.

So what's going on? Is the game filling info that I've somehow accidentally missed as I've progressed through the game? Should I have met this Spannow fellow by now? Have I somehow avoided pretty big chunks of information so vital to progressing that the game has filled them in anyway? It just seems so incongruent with everything else going on to have completely missed two whole characters and a chunk of Dunn's potential backstory?

You've probably figured it out by now, but this info is meant to be unlocked a couple of scenes later, when talking to Thorpe after visiting Dunn's apartment.

Yeah, I did come across it later in the game. I was very confused for a while though, thought I'd missed a big chunk of game. It all fell into place after clearing Joe's apartment and making my way to the graveyard to meet Spannow and even later when I finally got round to talking to Thorpe about the picture. ¬¬ Seems like the case notes could use a little refining.
