Good controller to play with?
Whenever I play, I sometimes rotate in the wrong direction accidentally; Such as playing too fast and "slip up"

I'm using a PS3 controller for it's D-Pad, I have a PS5 one but it won't charge and personally feel better with the PS3 one (because of it's D-Pad perhaps?) I've tried the Steam controller as well but I'm having a really hard time getting used to it. I can perhaps try a Megadrive controller for it's D-Pad

What do you guys play with? What are the best controllers for every Tetris?

8bitdo make the best PC controllers.

Also, I quite like the Steel Series Stratus Duo. It feels nice and solid in the hands with no wobble feeling to the sticks or dpad. Only downside is it's worthless Xinput only.

Really, anything where the left controls aren't upside down. The xbox layout is an abomination.

I like series s controller dpad for comfort and accuracy with LB as hard drop instead of up. I use that on switch with the 8bitdo adapter

I second the 8bitdo suggestion.

There's no "best" controller, the best one is what you find comfortable. I use a fightstick, the 2022 champion uses joycons, plenty of players are on keyboard or PS4/Xbox controllers. If you already own other options, give them a shot and see what works best. Switch Pro controllers are supported through Steam, DS4Windows can give more options to Sony controllers, swapping the controls can also be worthwhile such as a face/trigger for hard drop, but that'll be a bit of muscle memory to change over. Hopefully you find something that works :)

i switch back and forth with the PS3 controller and the 8BitDo SN30 Pro (it's set up like a PS3 controller but smaller and not in a bad way and if your using the D-pad it's a little easier then the PS3 controller).

Misdrops and misinput, like holding the wrong piece, happens to all players.

I actually use the keyboard. I've felt more proficient with it over a controller. This is one of the few games where you can play Classic Tetris with a keyboard, which can be an unorthodox choice!

Practicing to rotate the pieces either way has been hard for a few weeks, especially when going from gamepad to KB, but I've gotten used to it.

There's something reassuring about a clicky d-pad. It took a while to get used to it but I think I'm falling in love with it.

I feel like you're right about that, I've tried Joy-Cons and I don't missdrop/misinput as much as I was with my primary controller (PS3 one)

i used to use a PS4 controller (Dual-shock 4/DS4) - but the newly manufactured ones (1st party) have a thinner membrane for the D-Pad that tears unfortunately.

so i swapped to a PS5 Controller because it feels more robust.
also the USB-C is in a better location than the micro USB on the PS4 version;
the PS4 controllers "rest position" when the cable is plugged in puts weight directly on the USB connection, prolonged use will damage the cord or even worse (And i had this happen) damage the USB port on the controller. it was just a terrible design, the engineers had to know that people would use these as wired controller and having a vulnerable connection on the bottom of the controller was an incredibly poor design choice, its up there with apple's magic mouse having the charge cable be dead center under the mouse (intentionally so it cannot be used wired)

if you're used to Playstation controllers the PS5 controller is SOLID and feels great...
but if you're wanting something different/better, i would look into the XBOX controller that has mechanical MX-Cherry switches. the plus side is 95% of games on steam [including tetris effect] do not change button/interface graphics for Playstation controller icons. so once you learn the XBOX ones you will never have to learn which buttons do what when playing a new game on steam...

I have two DualSense controllers that don't want to charge anymore when connecting to my PC, the PS5 controller is great but it doesn't last a month and I can't charge it. It seems to happen with only my computer though
