Good news.

Tetrachrome is also awesome. Steam buried it of course since they don't care about catering to you and just pushing major publishers now.

Well that's all very nice and that but what makes this new version so special? What's the gimmick?

Existing on pc when 1-3 don't is enough reason.

Forgive me, my experience with Tetris is limited to the NES version, GameBoy version, SNES version and this (Tetris Effect) version.

What makes TGM4 so special?

The TGM series plays fairly differently with scoring and requirements. It's also where the master mode in effect comes from. As well as mystery mode.

I see. Thanks for filling me in. I'll keep an eye out for future updates. Currently I don't see why anyone would want to play TGM series over Effect.

Some people will. This is the hardest official Tetris game series. The series has a special level system. Each piece is a level. If you clear a line, you'll skip a level. Each 100th level you can only finish by clearing a line. After level 500, the game can be over for you if you don't meet the time requirement. The maximum level varies by a game and a mode.
After a game is over you'll get a rank depending on your performance. The highest rank is Grandmaster.
In TGM3 only 23 players has this rank on Classic ruleset, 32 players are verified having it on World ruleset.

Actually, just watch this (a TGM3 world record): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPVJDFRDIFs {S13 is maximum rank in Shirase Mode}.

And Mihara (director of the series) made videos with TGM4 gameplay private.
But I found a video with a reaction to one of Mihara's videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoV-j9mqc_o
I would recommend to watch it from 4:40 if you don't know french.

Wow. Having just watched both videos, I can tell you for sure that this game is not for me. I like having eyeballs and fingers, they serve me well in life. I think I'll stick to Tetris Effect.

The gameplay feels very different. TGM traditionally plays more like Sega Tetris, the typical Tetris Guideline (which is the ruleset used by nearly every Tetris game, including Effect) is very different from that. TGM gives you much more control than a Guideline game does, which is how people can play like in those videos. The Initial Rotation System and Initial Hold System options in Effect are actually taken from TGM, where they were implemented to prevent "dropped inputs" at high speeds. I'd highly recommend at least giving them a shot, TGM 1 and 2 are available on Switch & PS4. There are no official PC releases at this time, but TGM2 runs great in MAME and there are ways to get Taito Type X games like TGM3 running on a modern computer.

Interesting. I have a Switch so maybe I'll give it a go at some point.
