How often does this game go on sale?
I'd like to pick this up, but I am not into Tetris. Actually I have never ever played Tetris. How often does this game go on sale?

How can anyone not have played Tetris at some point before now?

Even monks in remote mountaintop monasteries have been playing it for decades.
It tends to go on a 50% sale off pretty often. Do not expect a bigger sale than 50%, so if you see it on 50% you should get it. I'm sure it'll be on a discount in the next sale.

are you the ceo or something? why are you so sure it'll never go on sale below 50%? maybe it should so we can get an influx of new players since it seems dead half the time

They said to not expect a bigger sale, not that they're sure it'll never happen. This is a pretty educated guess since the steam version has gone on 50% sale 9 times before, but never more than that, so probably the most likely thing is to continue with 50% sales for at least the next while.
I also don't really get the point about needing a player influx, the game has a pretty healthy playerbase currently. Matchmaking can take a while sometimes, but mostly in the higher ranks where there's just less players total.

They might be quite young and weren’t alive in the 80s and 90s when most of us encountered it. It kind of fell off the radar I think when 3D games became popular in the late 90s and 2000s. Then mobile gaming became big and I don’t recall Tetris being there in the early days of mobile gaming, or if it was other games were much bigger. Then there was WoW and the whole MMO phenomenon taking people’s attention. I’m not surprised if a current teenager or even someone in their early 20s has little to experience with it.

Better late than never!

I've just bought it for £15.49

For all newbies:

Ignore that stupid Apple movie.

Thor Aackerlund is badass. Who the hell is "Ninja?"

Speaking of monks, Tetris is a game that takes years of practice. No hand-holding and coddling and "game balance" shenanigans like in hero shooters that let kids dive right in and feel like they're skilled.

God knows, I've never been able to pull off a triple T-Spin. Because you have to be doing really badly to get into a situation where one is even possible.

Well I'm not completely sure about timeframe, but Tetris is apparently the second best selling video game franchise of all time, primarily from its 425 million paid mobile downloads as of 2014 (out of 490 million sales total). That's on top of god knows how many players playing a free version, so I'd say it was fairly big on mobile.

Tetris probably wouldn't have achieved such success if it hadn't been the pack-in title for the original Game Boy.

But you probably mean "mobile" in the modern phone and tablet sense, which aren't legitimate gaming platforms, of course.

Well yes, I presume that's also what the person I was replying to meant since they were talking about mobile gaming becoming big after the late 90s and 2000s. The term mobile gaming is generally used this way rather than for portable consoles, even if you don't view them as legitimate platforms.
