If you want to spend your money and time on a 'google play' tetris go ahead. Whip out your game boy or switch and hang out on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
This is a great original soundtrack (Had to pay artists), flawless VR support (had to pay 2nd VR development team), and yes the pretty art (had to pay artists AND animatiors). All of which COSTS MONEY.
Porting game boy tetris for the millionth time does not cost as much money. No new assets, no new development: basically an asset flip into a new engine.
Games cost money, and more original concepts (even ones with an IP you already know) cost more money.
Besides, if you want to play a game but you can't afford it because of your budget: you can always go chill at r/patientgamers .
They appreciate the time and money that goes in to a game, but are content with waiting up to several years in order to play it at a price point THEY can afford.
Good luck with your future game purchases, as well as your budgeting concerns.
Me, I would have paid $60 for this on launch (if they actually released it on Steam on launch and not PS4).
We all value things differently.
I'm not very good at this myself but I've had more fun playing this than most triple A title games that people hyped about. Furthermore, its being discounted at launch. Compare this to triple A title games which are slowly creeping towards $69.99, not even counting the DLC attached and most games that average $59.99. I'd say this is a steal.
even tetris 3d for the virtual boy is better than another rehash of the same 2d grid theyve been rehashing for 30 or so years.
