If you, say, paint the glasses, and then switch the style to the "Cool guy" style, the default hat won't have any paint. It just seems odd to have only one style paintable. Plus, it looks best in black anyway.
You could simply use two materials, a material for the glasses and a material for the hair. Just add a new material in the model, specify only the glasses to use it, and throw the coding for paint into the glasses vmt and not the hair vmt. That is, if you want to make the glasses paintable at all.
