thankyou
I designed this map, to allow for multiple attempts, just in case they are needed.
for this map, a well deserved congratulations.
your welcome
so if you restore your pc to a time before your maps were made,
or get a new pc.
prior to this, back up your maps.
path to portal 2 maps on a windows 7 home premium 64 bit pc.
start / computer / C drive (or which ever one your operating system is on) /program files (x86)
(on previous versions of windows, it might be just program files) / steam / steam apps / common / portal 2 / portal 2 / puzzles.
copy the folder called puzzles. to a external drive & make sure you will know where you put it.
then say on a new pc, after installing steam.
make sure steam is not running, then:
use the path above (I suggest copying that & putting by your backup of your maps)
then copy the contents of the "puzzle" folder you backed up,
into the puzzle folder in steam .
then exit & start steam.
all maps will now be available, in the portal map editor.
I hope you find all this usefull.
Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files or program files (x86)\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).
Delete all of the files in this folder except:
The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)
Restart your computer.
Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.
(steam will now replace all files you deleted & any that were missing.)
With Steam running, re-test the original issue.
Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.
Additionally, please complete this process for your installed game(s):
Title: Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF)
Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
thankyou very much for such high praise.
sorry to hear you had trouble with portal 2, needing to be re-installed.
any more problems try this 1st:
http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
thankyou.
though if I could, I would have eliminated the sound as well.
as the title is "Have Faith".
no sound would test their faith more :)
this is also the main reason for the 2nd turret.
their is a quiet version by SkyRoots (link in description)
but it would stop you reaching the pedestal button, as it is solid.
I have subscribed to your map:
(No)Portal Gun
not stupid.
just not suicidal :)
I just re-played from entrance, to exit.
with no problems.
remember the title. you need it to succeed.
if you tell me exactly what the problem is.
I will gladly help.
piston / perfect timing:
as you know. the title is "Have Faith "
so I put a turret on the piston there, & let the player kill it.
to test their Faith :)
but it could be solved, without the safety net.
light bridge just above goo level.
but that would frustrate a lot of people, who's timing is not that good.
the stairs, if timed right. can help you jump further.
aiming for the middle of the piston, is recommended.
then even if the piston goes down beneath the goo.
you will be safely on the light bridge.
then wait for the piston to rise again.
thankyou for your comments.
thankyou for playing.
the angled panel:
you would not want it to be that obvious & easy :)
though not intended. it is possible to use it.
fire a portal on the floor, under you.
crouch & keep firing at the panel.
the reset, is a by-product of the bridge alternating.
as I need the player to be able to pass through it.
it is unavoidable.
if you jump, you can briefly alter your viewing angle.
I also put pistons, glass & a block, on route,
to look around, without the resetting your view.
1 of the hard thing to do on this map, was to try to help the player,
know where to go & when.
the 1st build, most of it was automated.
I redesigned it, to make it more intuative.
especialy considering their brains are telling them they will die.
glad you liked the bridges (exept the side effect)
I have subscribed to the "Lighthouse"
I will gladly play it in the next few days.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=157429393
thankyou.
glad you liked it.
tested & left comments.
please read my description about SkyRoots map, with a link to see for yourself.
hope this helps.
I will be happy to play it & tell you what I think.
but I never accept friend reqeusts from people I don't know in the real world.
no not portal, the other one :)
so you will have to make this map public, for me to be able to play it.
looking forward to it.
when you make it public, please let me know.
thankyou.
if you want to know how to build a you know what.
let me know & I will explain 2 versions.
thankyou for playing & your comments.
glad you succeeded, in the end.
yes, when I came up with the ----- in the editor, I just had to use it.
I tried to help the player with the title & the 1st room.
not many options in the 1st room, I thought would help the player.
& after experiencing it in the 1st room, would hopefully then give them more confidence
in the final part.
I did try to make the puzzle in the 2nd chamber medium to hard.
so not obvious, or easy.
then visual clues, as where to proceed.
thank you for the thumbs up :)
thankyou for re-testing.
updated further.
a portable surface would not work.
have deleted the glass panel in front of the sphere dropper area.
the pedestal button that lets the sphere go to the button behind the large glass,
now disables the laser field permanantly.
this happens at the same time the flip panel flips, above the wieghted button.
so it is possible to retrieve the respawned sphere by original method, before panel flips.
or after panel flips, by walking in & using portals to exit with the sphere.
I added the light bridge above the button behind the glass, to bring back a slight delay.
to destroy the 2nd turret.
the 2nd piston now starts & stops at it's highest point.
to avoid the player getting trapped on it, if they run out of time.
this has been a difficult map to update, due to item limit, interconnectivity of items
& trying not to ruin the puzzle or basic idea of this map.
every problem solved, seems to creat other problems etc.
hope it is ok now ?
thankyou.
just updated it further & ran into all sorts of problems.
from complete portal crash, while working in the editor.
(I think was caused by my old graphics card)
me trying to alter timing & due to the interconectivity of items,
causing me more problems.
& off course item limit problems, cauasing me to delete items, causing me further problems.
I think it's sorted, hopefully ?
you may have an old version ?
you might have to unsubscribe & resubscribe for latest version ?
keep the faith.
thankyou for playing & for the enlightening video's :)
I have deleted some behind the scenes items (as was up to item limit).
& extended the grating. can you still do the jump ?
I also disconnected the sphere button (just outside the glass).
from the sphere dropper, up, behind the glass.
added a glass pannel, which is now connected to the sphere button (outside the glass).
when this glass panel is activated, the sphere will drop.
but manual respawn no longer possible.
in case of the panel destroying the sphere, auto respawn enabled.
does this stop your unintended, though brilliant solution ?
thankyou very much for the "Wow!"
thankyou for your comments & thumbs up.
I made sure to limit the turrets line of fire,
not to be a major problem.
but he is there, to test your faith.
I re-tested this map so many times, that I would forget about the turret.
then get a reminder of it being there. (lead reminder)
but never died from it.
hope you dream up a great map & on awakening, make it before you forget :)
thankyou for playing.
Great puzzle. A lot of work to achieve it I guess.
It is not faith that I missed, but rather the lack of idea!
this is after a restless night I finally solved the riddle of the sphere and the cube!
The turret on the piston is useless and it is especially troublesome, it prevents me from thinking. I think it's better if it does not exist!
I was surprised to be able to create a portal through a Fizzler, and many other things have surprised me. Thumb up of course, and I 'm going to bed :))
it does not have to be good.
while on the piston, just before it reaches it's highest point, jump.
the momentum causes you to jump higher than usual.
you then go through the light bridge, which is directly above both pistons.
but you get points for inginuity :)
I tested your mechanism & it does not allow you to pass through.
the you know what is solid.
in mine it is alternating extremely fast.
this means as you touch it, it raises you above it.
which is a shame, as I need it to work my way,
but your quiet version would have been helpfull, if it had the same other properties.
thankyou for playing.
I will look at you way, when I get more time.
it will depend on being able to jump through it & not deflect back down.
it will also reduce the noise, if used.
did you try going to the pedestal button using the pistons as will as the panel ?
ps. I have put your map link into my description.
thankyou, but I rewired it a few times.
started fully automated & everything stayed on & pistons did not rise fully.
but adding pedestal buttons to allow the player to control parts of it.
& at the same time, trying to show them where to go & what order, was essential.
I think you will like daloboy's artistry.
your welcome.
This was a very creative example of the concepts of rapidly changing funnels, lightbridges and fizzlers.
I found it very annoying that the player's viewpoint is reset to "forward-facing" when the player tries to look up or down while on a "vibrating" lightbridge. I once tried this myself and decided against using it because of this negative aspect of the glitch.
Thanks to Impossibru !!! #6, you now know an alternte way to make an "invisible" light bridge which doesn't annoyingly reset the players point of view. =)
I nocliped to your workroom and wow what a wiring expert! The journeyman electitian.
I will check daloboy I'm a follower there too. Thanks
thankyou for your feedback :)
their was also a block to stand on near the glass, which I found easier.
as for the portable area:
it is a panel, that later linked to a mechanism, that deployed & undeployed so fast,
that it almost looks still. but a portal can't stay on a panel when it is moving.
the mechanism is 2 lasers going into 2 relays.
1 relay connects to the panel & turns off the laser going into the other relay.
the other relay activates the laser that goes into the relay that turned it's laser off.
so it forms a loop.
their is a 2nd connection to the 1 laser, by a button, that starts the loop.
the lasers are as close to the relays as possible.
it is possible, though not an intended solution, to portal threw it.
crouch on a portal on the floor, & continuously fire the 2nd portal at the panel.
you will eventualy portal through it.
glad you were able to update your map.
& your welcome.
daloboy's latest map no. 51 looks like something you made.
great visual artistry.
Also I fiddled with my map and think I accomplished your helpful suggestions. Again thank you.
I also highly recomend using F6 in my description.
I know this type of map, won't be for everyone.
the unavoidable noise, for example.
& some players don't like anything they can't think their way through on logic alone.
the title should explain that part.
I have tried to make it intuative.
eg. when the stairs move, the noise & movement coinside with the flip panel.
to let the player know to go there then.
from there, the pedestal buttons, lights & light bridge on the cieling,
are there to guide them.
small update done.
moved large fizzler, to make signage to flip panel visible.
where you shot a portal threw glass, I moved fizzler to block the gap.
where you jumped to stairs / flip panel area, I added grating, to hopefullyprevent this exploit.
as for where to go & the order to go there.
I don't know if you noticed the light strips are in units of 1, 2, 3 & 4 virtical.
& 1 & 2 horizontal.
the pedestal buttons in the goo area, were not on my original build.
the area was fully automated.
but I added them before I published, to guide the player & shut off previously used items,
to limit the noise.
have not updated yet, but will.
have uploaded a video walkthrough, above.
will leave button out of sight then, as trying to hide funel, for effect.
I will post a comment here, when I have updated.
might be a while, as I had to delete a light strip, to build & publish.
so adding anything, means deleting things 1st.
You're asking for faith, but it looks to me you're also asking for having psychic abilities without saying it. I can not take a leap of faith at any random point or I'll land in the water. Also, not sure if seeing the signage of the button the zero gravity sphere lands on would provide useful information, but it really bothered that I wasn't able to see said button.
