Dust & Dirt: Screen Effect
< >

To be honest, I hadn't read the comments below and thought it was a general issue, I don't use the mods mentioned so I'm all good. Ace mod mate, adds nice realsim - gritty! 10/10

@MrThirsty247 It's not too much trouble to get them working together with Red's instructions :)
Red Schism  [author] Sep 21 @ 11:59pm
There was no issues with the mod.

I was giving her instructions on how to merge this mod with her favorite hud mod.

"Yes, sorry I should have mentioned that.

The Dust & Dirt script should be placed at the bottom, remember to keep it just above the final empty line and end braket ( } ).

Also you can erase the

as it's redundant in this position."

Has this been fixed - updated before I download??
Elitesune miku Aug 17 @ 12:38pm
I sorted it a little while ago sorry :o thanks for the advice though :)

Still having the issue but all the time now, before it would work for the most part. I only pasted in the script from DD to VHUD and it's at the very top do you think it would helping to have everything for DD at the bottom in the hudlayout.res?
Red Schism  [author] Aug 17 @ 1:29am
Both mods edit the same file [scripts\hudlayout.res]. Depending on the load order one mod will override the other causing issues.

You can fix this easily by merging the mods using Left4Dead 2 Authoring Tools and Notepad++.

If you dont know how to do this I'll put some instructions on how to do this down below.
Red Schism  [author] Aug 17 @ 1:29am
-Download/Install both programs.

-Open [\Steam\SteamApps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\bin]

-Right Click "vpk.exe" and Send To Desktop (create shortcut)

-Find the Mod you wish to edit (Dust & Dirt and Vert Hud) One at a time, drag onto "vpk.exe shortcut"
(doing this will make a new folder for each containing the unzipped mod)

-Enter [Vert Hud\Scripts] and open "hudlayout.res" with notepad++.
-Do the same for Dust and Dirt.

-Select/Copy all the text from Dust & Dirt ("hudlayout.res") and Paste into Vert Hud's "hudlayout.res".

-Save/Close notepad++

-Lastly drag the "materials" folder from Dust & Dirt into the Vert Hud folder.
-extra/optional step. Open "addoninfo.txt" and rename mod. to Vert Hud + Dust Effect. Save

-Now drag your freshly edited mod folder onto the "vpk.exe shortcut".

-Congratulations! You're done!

Just drop your New Mod into the addons folder in the L4D2 dirctory and run the Game.

This mod bugs with vertical HUD http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=492863131 do you think you can fix that? Sometime the players health bars will go off screen.
-700- Aug 1 @ 2:12pm
too shame for mod cuz i cant play this great mod with other mods
Puppy Bitch Jul 31 @ 9:06am
Thank you, I'll try to make it work with a custom crosshair.
Red Schism  [author] Jul 30 @ 11:31pm

You'll also need to download "Left4Dead 2 Authoring Tools" in the Library\Tools tab in Steam, to extract/repack .vpk files and Notepad++ to modify "hudlayout.res".
Puppy Bitch Jul 30 @ 7:20pm
baddude seems to have fixed the conflicts with other mods merging them togheter and "editing a single file", any clue what file could be?
Juleris Jul 27 @ 1:55pm
Wow! Now I can realistically feel like I'm being clawed to death by a Hunter!
Go Go Jul 25 @ 7:18am
This mod conflicts with NeunGUI Weapon Panel, any way to fix this? :/
Red Schism  [author] Jul 7 @ 1:59pm
Check your mod list for conflicts. Some UI mods will ovewrite this.
doesnt work..please fix
Red Schism  [author] May 4 @ 1:54am
Could possibly be caused by a conflict with a Hud mod. You could try to Un-Sub/Re-Sub to see if it gives d&d priority or you can edit the load order in "addonlist.txt" with notepad++.
PersonA May 4 @ 12:53am
It's not work it

I have dust and ahes inside my eyes too...
Daddy's Belt Dec 2, 2014 @ 4:00pm
Is it just me or does this remove all huds, including the default?
baddude1337 Jul 20, 2014 @ 5:13pm
Here's a pic of the overlay in effect, along with a lens flare mod, skybox mod, hud mod among others. Who says L4D can't look awesome?

baddude1337 Jul 20, 2014 @ 7:21am
Really nice mod. Got it working quite easily with the HUD mod I use by just lumping them all in one VPK and editing a single file.
Oѕwαld tᏲє Lucky ƦαƄƄit Jul 9, 2014 @ 8:44pm
I really wish it didn't conflict with the "Delux" Halo HUD. That would make for an awesome in-game experience as a Spartan! I don't even know why it conflicts though... I could post the link.
TheWildernessDowntown Jun 19, 2014 @ 8:26pm
woah this is amazing

[AP] One small step for sloth Jan 2, 2014 @ 8:34am
I would use this if my screen wasn't already covered in dust and dirt.
Metalhead Dec 27, 2013 @ 9:01pm
dirt stay in screen all the time ?
Petekaboo Aug 29, 2013 @ 11:51pm
Looks okay but like the other said needs to be more transparent.
Decoy Squid May 4, 2013 @ 10:26am
It looks nice but I would like the overlay to just be a biiiiit more transparent.
Red Schism  [author] Apr 14, 2013 @ 10:43am
There are two shotgun featured in the screenshots above.

-The shotgun in the 2nd image is the "Benelli M3 (Chrome Shotgun)" by Dok̨tor haus̨ / TOG | K1CHWA. Which can be found here in the Steam Workshop.

-The shotgun in the 3rd image is the "Dark Weathered M1014" by Twinke Masta/A1/arby26/miztaegg. Which can be downloaded from L4DMaps.com
Mati Apr 14, 2013 @ 9:08am
Hi can u add this shotgun from screens ?
Red Schism  [author] Apr 9, 2013 @ 4:58am
@ [VRS] Vilkz ☂ λ³: Yes, but the vignette.vtf only shows shades of black. So while in theory it might work for some of the dark bits of dirt, it would also remove the lighter effects such as the larger screen particles entirely. Another problem with using the vignette.vft is, the effect while extremely visible indoors, fades out nearly completely in outdoor environments.

and thank you. :)
Vilkz Apr 8, 2013 @ 1:07pm
You could replace materials\dev\vignette.vtf instead of using scripts and altcrosshair.vtf. It will not conflict with any mod exept vignette removal mods. Great overlay btw.
Dfault Apr 6, 2013 @ 11:16am
Excellent mod. It reminds me of the similar effect in Battlefield 3. Love it! Subtle but adds a lot of atmosphere
