This is beautiful, but why does the crosshair included here http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=285038350 disappear when I use this with it?
Red Schism  [author] Oct 25, 2017 @ 9:09pm
Would be, had I not taken the time to type out that sentence in the description.

"[Effect in screenshots is exaggerated to show detail. Screen effect will be much more subtle in game.] "
Kinda false advertisement, don't you think?
Roach Sep 19, 2017 @ 4:35am
Alright,I found out what it was. I had a HUD mod that completely removed the hud before, because I want my game to be more realistic. The HUD mod used to work with it fine before, so if you find out why it randomly stopped working with the effect, please let me know.
Roach Sep 18, 2017 @ 3:47pm
Alright, I'll try that. I hope it works!
Red Schism  [author] Sep 18, 2017 @ 2:14pm
A new mod may have overwritten it. If you want it back you can unsub/resub allow it to redownload to give it priority.
Roach Sep 17, 2017 @ 11:19pm
Used to work, now it's randomy stopped working, not sure why, but GREAT MOD.
SirAssAlotTheThird Sep 5, 2017 @ 4:12am
I hate dust.
Crvsader Aug 26, 2017 @ 11:11am
nice mod but its make my hud ripped on splitscreen mod
FestiveGlock Aug 5, 2017 @ 3:07pm
This is really cool, it gives the game a more real-life perspective.
Binky Jun 23, 2017 @ 6:41am
This is cool! Unfortunately... I am picky on my crosshairs and found it very troubling when this did not support any crosshairs that I used... :(
baddude1337 May 1, 2017 @ 4:29am
Many thanks for this. Have been using it for years now alongside a hug mod (I bashed and edited the VPK's together. It adds a really nice effect!

Equinox Sep 4, 2016 @ 11:32am
the hud is now visible with the dust and dirt! Thanks, schism.
Red Schism  [author] Sep 4, 2016 @ 3:09am
Yeah then full restart (exit to desktop/relaunch) the game.
Equinox Sep 3, 2016 @ 5:44pm
yes. i was using a hud mod before i enabled this mod. it conflicted so i disabled the hud, but when i got onto a game, only the dust and dirt showed. are you saying that i have to enable the screen effect after disabling huds?
Red Schism  [author] Sep 2, 2016 @ 8:20pm
Where you using a hud mod before enabling this mod?

I just tested it myself and ran into a problem when disabling a hud mod then enabling this mod before starting a game. The game seems to hold onto data from deactivated mods.

I'm not sure if it's a bug with L4D2's scripting engine (or perhaps it caches mod data) but restarting the game after disabling hudmod / enabling D&D fixes the issue.
Equinox Sep 2, 2016 @ 7:29pm
hey, this addon (for some reason) hides my hud and only shows the dirt and dust. it does not conflict with anything. do you have any knowledge why this happens?
карасик Aug 19, 2016 @ 2:33am
С моим грязным монитором у меня во всех играх такой эффект
Pistol Mags Jul 31, 2016 @ 6:27pm
Ok I followed what you said in the comments and now it works with Weaponpanel :D Nice mod it goes so well with my HD mods and color correction.
Pistol Mags Jul 30, 2016 @ 1:31pm
Incompatible with WeaponPanel for NeunGui :(
Aegis Jun 18, 2016 @ 2:30pm
Nevermind, I got it working and finally did it. Thanks for the help.
Aegis Jun 18, 2016 @ 2:20pm
OK, I actually found where my mods were, but, I drag Dust and Dirt and Slim HUD Alternative to vpk and I try to open vpk, and it still doesn't work. It seems to be opening in a .bat format, I think that's the issue. I don't know how to change it though. Is it supposed to be opened as a .bat or on Notepad?
Aegis Jun 18, 2016 @ 10:33am
Ah, slight problem, I don't see any of my installed add-ons from the Workshop in my workshop folder. I've seen them there before but they aren't there for some reason. Any suggestions?
Red Schism  [author] May 30, 2016 @ 5:06pm
I know, below are instructions on how to merge them (so they play nice) into one mod.
Valtierre May 30, 2016 @ 6:12am
Red Schism  [author] May 30, 2016 @ 5:03am
It should be fairly simple to merge the mods yourself, all you need is L4D2 authoring tools (in the tools section of the steam library) to unpack/repack mods.

-Head to: [h1]SteamApps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\bin[/h1] ,right click vpk.exe send to desktop.
-Drag each mod onto vpk shortcut.
-Copy "materials" folder from D&D into hud mod's folder.
-Open hud mod's script folder, open hudlayout.res with notepad.
-Insert following code in between overview & hudcommentary:
Red Schism  [author] May 30, 2016 @ 5:03am

Dust&Dirt
{
"ControlName" "ImagePanel"
"fieldName" "dust&dirt"
"xpos" "c-512"
"ypos" "c-256"
"zpos" "c-1000"
"wide" "1024"
"tall" "512"
"pinCorner" "0"
"visible" "1"
"enabled" "1"
"image" "hud/dustanddirt"
"scaleImage" "1"
}

Save, then drag edited mod folder onto vpk shortcut. Done!

Valtierre May 30, 2016 @ 3:59am
Can I request a personal mod? I just need this mod and the conflicted mod to work together.
Red Schism  [author] May 1, 2016 @ 2:16pm
Yes. They both edit the the same file.
Although I think all that it would change is the weapon selection menu by placing it back to default position.
Mr. Moseby May 1, 2016 @ 1:30pm
would it interfere with SlimHUD?
Red Schism  [author] Mar 2, 2016 @ 11:46pm
Unfortunately I don't have an ultrawide monitor so I have no way to work on an properly fitted version of an overlay.
🔫 | HellCat 🏴 Mar 2, 2016 @ 1:01pm
Is there any way you can make this fit a 21:9 screen? I tried this mod and only the middle of my screen has the dust effects.

Yeah man! look forward to seeing it.

Hello, Red Schism.
I merged some MODs togheter and I included yours, and I call it "DirtyHUD". I'm thinking about publishing it linking all the mods and crediting all the creators. Can I have your permission to publish it?

To be honest, I hadn't read the comments below and thought it was a general issue, I don't use the mods mentioned so I'm all good. Ace mod mate, adds nice realsim - gritty! 10/10
Princess Moch Sep 22, 2015 @ 3:16am
@MrThirsty247 It's not too much trouble to get them working together with Red's instructions :)
Red Schism  [author] Sep 21, 2015 @ 11:59pm
There was no issues with the mod.

I was giving her instructions on how to merge this mod with her favorite hud mod.

"Yes, sorry I should have mentioned that.

The Dust & Dirt script should be placed at the bottom, remember to keep it just above the final empty line and end braket ( } ).

Also you can erase the

"Resource/HudLayout.res"

as it's redundant in this position."

Has this been fixed - updated before I download??
Princess Moch Aug 17, 2015 @ 12:38pm
I sorted it a little while ago sorry :o thanks for the advice though :)

Still having the issue but all the time now, before it would work for the most part. I only pasted in the script from DD to VHUD and it's at the very top do you think it would helping to have everything for DD at the bottom in the hudlayout.res?
Red Schism  [author] Aug 17, 2015 @ 1:29am
Both mods edit the same file [scripts\hudlayout.res]. Depending on the load order one mod will override the other causing issues.

You can fix this easily by merging the mods using Left4Dead 2 Authoring Tools and Notepad++.

If you dont know how to do this I'll put some instructions on how to do this down below.
Red Schism  [author] Aug 17, 2015 @ 1:29am
-Download/Install both programs.

-Open [\Steam\SteamApps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\bin]

-Right Click "vpk.exe" and Send To Desktop (create shortcut)

-Find the Mod you wish to edit (Dust & Dirt and Vert Hud) One at a time, drag onto "vpk.exe shortcut"
(doing this will make a new folder for each containing the unzipped mod)

-Enter [Vert Hud\Scripts] and open "hudlayout.res" with notepad++.
-Do the same for Dust and Dirt.

-Select/Copy all the text from Dust & Dirt ("hudlayout.res") and Paste into Vert Hud's "hudlayout.res".

-Save/Close notepad++

-Lastly drag the "materials" folder from Dust & Dirt into the Vert Hud folder.
-extra/optional step. Open "addoninfo.txt" and rename mod. to Vert Hud + Dust Effect. Save

-Now drag your freshly edited mod folder onto the "vpk.exe shortcut".

-Congratulations! You're done!

Just drop your New Mod into the addons folder in the L4D2 dirctory and run the Game.
Princess Moch Aug 16, 2015 @ 8:41pm
This mod bugs with vertical HUD http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=492863131 do you think you can fix that? Sometime the players health bars will go off screen.
