I got to the upper level of it last night and, after trying to look around, I decided I needed to go to sleep and F6ed it. When I went back, it still took me at least twice as long to solve and execute the rest.
@hannoman, I agree that the rating system could use some tweaking. It would be nice if you could use a, say, 1 to 5 rating for: difficulty of execution, of solution and possibly even length of play, as well as whether you liked it. I do enjoy a longer puzzle, but sometimes I want to get in a quick one before I have to go to work or sleep and it would be nice to know before I play it, what I'm looking at. I knew this one wouldn't be quick, but I had no idea just how long it would take, let alone the difficulty.
Nice work, but a little vague for me.
@Revelation411 I had the same problem with the laser redirection cubes and I figured out what causes it. It's gel on the floor. If a cube sits on gel, it will slowly shuffle until it's out of position. Try to keep a clean, dry space for your cubes.
@toncica Nice technique. I rotated the cube by dropping it through an upside-down floor-to-wall portal, but your way doesn't need portals or appropriate surfaces. Very useful.
description, if that is the intended behavior. Because it differs so
much from what one expects from a portal level.
think that's probably some wisdom which still needs to be spread.
Apart from that, i think you can't dictate what people should vote. I
consider the possibility to get trapped a major flaw. I know about the
quicksaving feature for some time now but i still don't use it,
because i appreciate the behavior of portal that you can always start
over (even though sometimes being thrown back a lot in the work to the
solution) a lot. For me it helps a lot to immerse into the game: being
captured in some kind of cage with riddles, trying hard and often in
vain to get to the exit. I don't want to become portal some kind of
quicksave-trial-error-quickload game. And finally: i didn't have a
good time playing this map --> that's enough (and probably the only)
reason to vote it down (although i must admit i find the voting system
pretty dumb).
I use to open the two first doors at the same time (one mirror below the two laser relays, and one in the narrow passage). Then I stand in the second room and hit the opposite wall with a portal to bring the laser in to me . After that I do it like you do.
I wanted the difficult part to be to find out what to do, and not to actually do it. I myself has no problem with the laser in the last part (except when I sometimes get overconfident and get stuck under a closing door :-). Maybe we solve it slighly different?
Also, I'd appreciate any feedback on my first map: HERE.
