Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it!

Not an easy one but rewarding. I had to restart a couple of time but, in the end, i made it. Great job. I liked it.

Thank you for playing and for your kind words! And good work solving it!

WOW! That was an ordeal. It took me the better part of two and half hours to finish this one. I got all the way to the end... the very end... and I couldn't figure out what to do with the two reflection cubes in the last couple of rooms. The rest I figured out without too much pain. It took almost an hour in the last couple of rooms before I finally figured it out. One of the best chambers I've played in awhile. Made me think and think hard. I love a challenge and this one was a challenge. Thumbs up.

Btw, REVELATION411, in the official solution, I do not get hit by any laser!

I decided to record an official solution. Here it is:

Lord Dhaf  [autore] 25 mag 2013, ore 7:59
Well, the intended solution is not very hard to execute. Maybe you found another way? Thanks for playing it anyway!
Buckfuts 20 mag 2013, ore 17:30
Oof! I'm surprised I actually bothered finishing this! It was extremely difficult to solve and to execute (more the former than the latter). I wouldn't consider the execution ninja (which I'm awful at!), but it was still pretty hard!
I got to the upper level of it last night and, after trying to look around, I decided I needed to go to sleep and F6ed it. When I went back, it still took me at least twice as long to solve and execute the rest.
@hannoman, I agree that the rating system could use some tweaking. It would be nice if you could use a, say, 1 to 5 rating for: difficulty of execution, of solution and possibly even length of play, as well as whether you liked it. I do enjoy a longer puzzle, but sometimes I want to get in a quick one before I have to go to work or sleep and it would be nice to know before I play it, what I'm looking at. I knew this one wouldn't be quick, but I had no idea just how long it would take, let alone the difficulty.
Nice work, but a little vague for me.

Well, the reflection cubes can be replaced, anyway. The regular cube doesn't appear to have a dispenser. Of course, it would take deliberate tomfoolery to destroy it. Otherwise, great puzzle!

@Revelation411 I had the same problem with the laser redirection cubes and I figured out what causes it. It's gel on the floor. If a cube sits on gel, it will slowly shuffle until it's out of position. Try to keep a clean, dry space for your cubes.

@toncica Nice technique. I rotated the cube by dropping it through an upside-down floor-to-wall portal, but your way doesn't need portals or appropriate surfaces. Very useful.
Lord Dhaf  [autore] 12 feb 2013, ore 4:54
@hannoman: I have made an update. If you lose a cube, it is now recreated, and there are ways to get back to the beginning if you should get stuck. Hope it helps!
Lord Dhaf  [autore] 7 feb 2013, ore 5:57
I agree. Of course you could get stuck in almost any portal level, but such situation should be avoided as much as possible by the designer. I have tried to make escape possibilities at every step in this level, so you should be able to recover from almost any mistake. But if you for instance should lose a cube you are screwed. If you exit the first room without a cube you are also stuck. Ill see what I can do about it without destroying the puzzle.

@lord_dhaf: I suggest that you put a warning about the trapping in the
description, if that is the intended behavior. Because it differs so
much from what one expects from a portal level.
hannoman, the paper tiger 6 feb 2013, ore 16:34
@toncica: Yeah, thx for the info about the quicksaving feature. I
think that's probably some wisdom which still needs to be spread.
Apart from that, i think you can't dictate what people should vote. I
consider the possibility to get trapped a major flaw. I know about the
quicksaving feature for some time now but i still don't use it,
because i appreciate the behavior of portal that you can always start
over (even though sometimes being thrown back a lot in the work to the
solution) a lot. For me it helps a lot to immerse into the game: being
captured in some kind of cage with riddles, trying hard and often in
vain to get to the exit. I don't want to become portal some kind of
quicksave-trial-error-quickload game. And finally: i didn't have a
good time playing this map --> that's enough (and probably the only)
reason to vote it down (although i must admit i find the voting system
pretty dumb).
toncica 2 feb 2013, ore 15:44
Ah ok, didn't think of that. I'm using Fraps to record and Avidemux to compress the video.
Lord Dhaf  [autore] 2 feb 2013, ore 14:58
BTW, what are you using to make your videos?
Lord Dhaf  [autore] 2 feb 2013, ore 13:48
Very interesting technique!
I use to open the two first doors at the same time (one mirror below the two laser relays, and one in the narrow passage). Then I stand in the second room and hit the opposite wall with a portal to bring the laser in to me . After that I do it like you do.
toncica 1 feb 2013, ore 22:43
Maybe, if I position the cube wrong I hit the glass panel and have to start over. This is my way.
Lord Dhaf  [autore] 1 feb 2013, ore 13:56
I didn't mean to make the test any harder than it already is!
I wanted the difficult part to be to find out what to do, and not to actually do it. I myself has no problem with the laser in the last part (except when I sometimes get overconfident and get stuck under a closing door :-). Maybe we solve it slighly different?
toncica 1 feb 2013, ore 8:09
You might be pleased to hear that after the update I had to use the blue gel and the standard cube at the end. Although I think with the modifications the last part has become overly hard. There is very little room to redirect the laser (assuming I'm doing it the intended way) because the back of the glass panels is like an invisible barrier to lasers.
Lord Dhaf  [autore] 1 feb 2013, ore 6:29
Thanks, toncica and REVELATION411 for your kind words and insightful input! I have now updated the test and removed the portal bumping issue. I have also made a few changes to make the blue gel more useful. Please feel free to try it again!
REVELATION411 30 gen 2013, ore 20:32
Thanks@Toncica. I wasn't aware of the F6/F7 function yet myself. I haven't solved this one yet, but I was just about to when my laser fizzled out. Somehow one of the reflector cubes in the first section of the map stopped transferring the laser... Probably a game issue, not a map issue. So due to that issue, I got a little discouraged and I'll finish the map later. So far I've found the map frustrating, but totally brilliant. I'd like to challenge anyone who has finished this map to do it again, but without getting hit by a laser!

Also, I'd appreciate any feedback on my first map: HERE.
toncica 30 gen 2013, ore 19:57
@hannoman, yeah there is a situation where you can get stuck obviously. Such situations should be avoided by the map maker, but it's not a good enough reason to vote a map down. That's like blaming someone else for your own incompetence. You can use the F6 key to quick save in any situation and F7 to load to avoid having to start from the beginning. Even if you die the game will automatically resume from the last point you saved. If you save when you are already stuck you are obviously screwed and you would have to restart the map, somehow I feel the need to mention this. ;)
hannoman, the paper tiger 30 gen 2013, ore 19:01
Gah, got stuck and didnt want to start over.. Therefore voted down.
toncica 30 gen 2013, ore 12:30
Harder than expected. I liked the second half better, when you get on the upper floor that's when it really gets interesting. There is a portal bumping issue in the corridor with the laser, I suggest you fix that. In the end I didn't use the blue gel and the standard cube at the exit.
Here is my blind run: http://youtu.be/q9Nad5e-Rf4
REVELATION411 30 gen 2013, ore 11:09
Ok, made it through the main part. But I have to go back to work here, lol. I'll go for finishing it later.
REVELATION411 30 gen 2013, ore 10:40
I loaded this one up last night but I did get stuck in the beginning portion of the map (the main room with laser relays and such). I know the center relay activates what seems to be a door in that room, but I haven't quite figured out how to get out of that first part of the map. I'll take a try at it again tonight though! I won't give up!

Nicely done! Had fun with the finale manipulation!
Please try another one of mine and comment! Thanks.
