This mod adds challenge by spawning tougher enemies earlier and more often. A Bandit doesn't get any tougher, but you may be attacked by a Bandit Highwayman instead. It's a more interesting challenge than the vanilla difficulty's simple damage multiplier.

Since this is intended to replace the in-game difficulty setting, it's recommended to have that setting at Adept.

The inspiration for this was an article (http://j-u-i-c-e.hubpages.com/hub/skyrim-difficulty-settings) that suggested Skyrim's difficulty settings should have adjusted level scaling instead of multiplying damage. This mod implements that idea by altering the generic scaling factors used in generating most leveled enemies. In vanilla Skyrim, these factors range from 33% to 125%. With this mod, they range from 125% to 200%.

The result is that leveled spawns often generate tougher enemy types than usual. Unaffected by the mod are those who level up directly with the player (e.g. Malyn Varen) and those with a fixed level (e.g. Volsung). Since leveled lists are only well-populated up to a certain point, this mod is most effective for characters up to level 30. Beyond that, the challenge will diminish as your character's abilities increase.

If this difficulty is not right for you, there are two other mods in the Immersive Difficulty Levels collection. If you enable more than one at a time, only the lowest in your load order will take effect. The difficulty levels are as follows:

033% to 125% ---- Citizen (no mod enabled): No guts, no glory.
067% to 150% ---- Thane: A respectable challenge.
100% to 175% ---- Jarl: Worthy foes abound.
125% to 200% ---- High King (this mod): Sovngarde awaits.

Note that unlike the in-game difficulty setting, adding or removing this mod will not affect already-existing enemies. (If you can't finish a dungeon, disabling the mod won't help.)

This mod can also be found on Skyrim Nexus at http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/35569.

If you find any bugs or issues, please note them in the comments so I can promptly address them.

@Dragon Priest Krosis: The mod will cause higher-level entries on leveled lists to appear for lower-level players, and I'm pretty sure that would include maskless dragon priests, per your example. (The only reason I'm not 100% certain is that I haven't played Skyrim for a long time. Too many great games on PC and too little time! :praisesun:)

So, small question. If it makes tougher enemies spawn early, im guessing it means higher-leveled enemies. Would that cause, for example, the maskless dragon priests to appear earlier? Or do you still have to reach a high enough level on your own for them to appear?

@Micah: Skyrim mods aren't compiled at all, so the .esp file is all there is to it on my end as well.

Thanks for the reply @david, I'm not sure I am passionate enough about Skyrim to port the mod, but I'll look into it. Is the original source code available anywhere? I think if I download the mod off of Nexus I might be able to unpack it, but I would prefer to start with the actual source if that is an option.

@Micah: Honestly, I haven't done anything with Skyrim in years. I assume the mod portal you're talking about is something related to the newly released edition. If you or someone else wants to port this or any of my other mods, feel free to do so. All I'd ask is credit as the original author in the new mod's description.

Any plans on porting this to Skyrim SE in the new Bethesda mod portal?

@Lampros: Glad to help. Enjoy!

By the way, thanks for the potion animation link. I really like it.

Ah, ok. I will give it a go with it when I start a new character then. 200 percent might be too high for a beginning character, so I might opt for the "Thane" version for the first go.
