Unique Atlatlist

Descrizione
Atlatlist seemed boring and not really unique, so I've reworked the unit into something else.

  • Atlatlist now replaces Scout instead of Archer. Its cost matches the Scout, it ignores terrain movement costs, and it obsolesces at Scientific Theory. However, it still upgrades into Composite Bowman as before.

  • Atlatlist is now a Recon unit, and thus gains scouting promotions instead of ranged.

  • Atlatlist's range was reduced to 1 (you cannot throw a spear as far as you can fire an arrow) and ranged combat strength to 5 to balance its new place as a recon unit and to make Archer still useful. These changes mean that the Atlatlist is essentially just a Scout that can safely attack adjacent panels and follows the Archer's unit upgrade path. It will keep the Ignores Terrain Cost promotion as well as any scouting promotions it gains from levels upon being upgraded.

i think u can still train scouts, it just for mayan civilization that Atlatlist replaces scout instead of archer, thou u still can train scouts under mayan but would be pointless. think of it as a range warrior with exploration trait. Atlatlist was a early spearman/archer hybrid. thou technology early not superior. anyway find it useful and use with

what a dont get is why make no scouts available because of that tech because they could still be useful till the atomic or information eras because not evreyone is going to discover the map that fast

Atlatlists are supposed to be a "core" army unit to protect your rapidly expanding empire. Now, the way I see it, the bonus of this unit is that when it upgrades it retains the ignore terrain cost promotion. The Maya have the early-mid game figured out. make a city 4 tiles from the closest one, providing you have happiness, construct a city connection, a pyramid, and with the right beliefs, that's 5 science off the batt.
The thing about this unit, is that the maya did devlope archery, a rather brutal form of it with obsidian tipped arrows, but the atlatl was deemed supperior.

This actually makes the Maya weaker. As the Maya you should definitely rush Theology picking up your Pyramids on the way. The Atlatlists are meant to protect you until you do reach better military techs. The lowered cost means faster production which means lower gold cost as well. They're basically useful up until the Medieval era in a sense. Just my words.

I don't get why the range was reduced. It's true that you can't THROW a spear as far as an arrow, but if you think these guys throw them then you need to look up what an atal is. No, literally, look up at the civelopedia entry up there.

Yay! I always loved getting 'advanced weaponry' on my scout after a few vision+ upgrades - this unit guarentees ranged units with scout abilities.

I'd like to see a unit where it can do a ranged attack before doing a standard attack in the same turn. Just a random idea I thought when I read about this.
