Description
!!-Discontinued and no longer updated-!!
BNW Independence Day remakes out now with two leaders to choose, Mannerheim and as requested, Urho Kekkonen.

Adds the Finnish Civilization for Gods & Kings with Mannerheim as the leader.

Specializes early game in faith and culture from nature and late game in culture and defense.

UA: Stalwart North - Unimproved worked marsh tiles provide +1 Faith and forest tiles +1 Culture per turn. All melee, gun and armored units gain +15% combat strength fighting within empire's borders.

UU: Ski Troop - Machine Gun replacement that specializes in operating in cold terrains with snow camouflage suit.

UB: Sauna - Ancient era Shrine replacement that adds a little extra culture and happiness. Bonus faith from lake tiles.

NOTE: This mod has custom peace & war leader musics
(Jean Sibelius: Finlandia, played by London Symphony Orchestra).
They can only be done with replacing an existing leader, so when this mod is activated, Siam is not playable because Mannerheim is set to replace Ramkhamhaeng.
When this mod is active, it also removes the Finnish city names from Sweden, so there won't be two Helsinkis in one game.

All art done by Hypereon (Mannerheim itself is a self-colored version of an old photo.) Civilopedia entries from Wikipedia.

If problems appear, try to find solution from the FAQ and if it cannot be found, feel free to comment below.

[[[F.A.Q.]]]

Q: Do I need Gods & Kings to play the mod?
A: Yes you need. The main elements of the mod; faith, shrine, machine gun, culture as a yield etc. are all added only in the expansion. So this is a G&K only mod.

Q: Why it doesn't work?
A: Make sure that you have all latest patches and the expansion. (Remember that modding via Workshop isn't supported for Mac, it must be done manually. See this thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=399791 ). If you have them and cannot get it working, try to unsubscribe the mod, (extra step: delete the Finnish civ folder from your MODS folder and civ5modsdatabase.db in your Civilization 5/cache folder [NOTE!! works with Windows only!!]]) and restart Steam and then subscribe again and enable in-game. If you have still problems - I recommend you to download the mod manually from https://www.rapidshare.com/#!download|674|369355014|The%20Finnish%20Civilization%20%28v%201%29.zip|25345 . When you have downloaded the file, put the folder to your documents' My Games/Civilization 5/MODS directory and enable the mod. If you still haven't got it working - I can't help, so I then would suggest doing some googleing.

Q: Why did you choose that or do e.g. Sauna as a shrine replacement? (or other questions related to the ability, UU or UB)
A: I have listed some of my comments and reasons for my decisions at the CivFanatics thread of this mod, which can be found here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=469992

Q: Why does it replace Ramkhamhaeng?
A: This mod has custom peace & war leader musics, which can only be done with replacing an existing leader. I chose Ramkhamhaeng because it has perhaps the least to do with Finland, and the ambient sound of the Mannerheim scene could be only done by replacing a leader with ambient too.

Q: Why isn't Turku the first city? ;)
A: The citylist isn't decided by only the age of the city, but with a combination of the age and modern size. Plus, Helsinki as the capital of the Republic, is perhaps more widely recognized.

Q: Are there more mods coming?
A: Yes, when I have more time for modding again. Kingdom of Italy, as a Rome replacement, has been on the works for at least 4 months, but you can post me some suggestions what do you want as the next civ. I don't have time to do every one, but I could choose some interesting nation (with enough size, history and material) to be made then. I have also thought of Israel or Portugal, but they seem to be done already.

[CHANGELOG]
Changes in version 2:

Balancing:
- Stalwart North trait: Archer-type units no longer have the bonus promotion.
- Sauna is no longer restricted to fresh water, and can be built in any city. In contrast happiness bonus has been reduced to +1.

Other:
The playercolor has been darkened a bit to make it more distinguishable from Greece.

Just wondering if your interested in any new ideas for building a new Civ? I don't know if you ever heard of them, but Google, or use wikipedia, The Olmec Civ. Or look up La Venta, which is believe to been the center of the Olmec Civ. I'm sure your familiar with civ name Aztec and/or Mayan, both in Civ already... well, they we're not the first tribal Civ's that ran MesoAmerican lands, like some might of thought....

Olmec, also known as the Grandmother of all MesoAmerican people, we're believed to been the first inhabitants of Mesoamerica land and culture. The tribal practices of Olmec Civ are believed to pass on to the Aztecs and the Mayan's, so Olmec had some culture significance in world history. Olmec we're believed to have roamed the lands as far south as Northern lands of S.America, and much of North america as well.

Yes you can play, but no updates are coming anymore. However, if you still have only G&K, this should work well. :)

Carious... you said at the top...
" !!-Discontinued and no longer updated-!! "

So does it mean I can not download or play any more? I'm always interested in trying out new Civ's when I play a new game. I would like to play this one if still available to DL... I know, you have newer versions, but as I understand correctly... only for BNW? Laugh if you wish, but I currently do not have BNW... So far, been fine with G&K. So If i'm able, can I try this one out?

Look now for Hypereon's Finland (Mannerheim) and (Kekkonen) in the Workshop. They are the continuation of this mod - a complete remake. Happy Independence Day for Finnish folks! :)
