It makes laying out a complex rail junction much more cost effective as it costs nothing to place and nothing to demolish, so you can plan to your heart's content, then only lay your track when everything is perfect.
Nice work. Simple and effective.
You can use the highspeed track upgrade for conversion, if you apply it twice it will even allow for slow speed tracks.
