Pocket Assault Carrier (PAC)

Description
Very nimble CV, designed to be a very offensive jumpship with a good punch, that offers respawn for your pilots as well as quite a few fighters docked on its outer hull.

Carries 5 pulse laser and 4 rocket launchers, almost the maximum guns allowed. They are positioned so maneuvering and firing will not cause your shots to hit yourself. The Pulse lasers kill drones with one hit and base turrets with two and the rocket launchers are for when you need to vaporize something at the corner of vision range.

Besides the deadly fixed weapons, there are 2 flak turrets, a 360° pulse laser, two plasma turrets to make short work of space drones and a minigun to take care of ground drones while not piloting (its a shame that most turrets don't work on Planets anymore and docked HVs will not fire anymore, since I created a matching dockable HV turret defense module for the PAC http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=803004015 - I leave it in the Workshop for now, in case the functionality comes back)

It has a medic and clone station as well as a warp drive. You can transport your 6 best fighter pilots and can dock a good dozen or so fighters on this ship.

All wrapped in several layers of bespoke combat steel, organized to provide optimal defense when approaching targets frontal from slightly above. Weakest spot is from above and behind, but you have awesome RCS capabilities and the construction is lightweight for the armor offered. Thrusters and RCS are mostly in the engine assemblies and you can lose 3 of the 4 assemblies and still retain full control of the ship. Fuel tanks are placed with separation and losing one should not result in a deadly chain reaction that kills the ship.

On top of that there are several maintenance shafts that allow to repair a lot of parts from inside the ship while moving. So this ship will do great when you have a few friends to help out.

Because this ship is so TINY, there was no space for a constructor or offline protection/gravity generator. However you can simply disassemble the warp core and plop down the offline protection when you sign out. (Or fit it into your base, since it is just about 11x9x22 L blocks sized (wings & ramp tucked in).

To offer lots of storage and some construction capabilities while on the hunt, I recommend to also get the Modular Storage add-in module from here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=776534078

Simply slide it in from the top with the boxes facing towards the rear, wait for it to dock, then toggle the RCS and thruster groups for 18 containers of storage, two SV constructors, 3 fridges and a oxygen station. This way you can easily resupply your wing of 6 fighter pilots in 2-3 sorties with the up to 15 fighters and 1 bomber docked on your hull.

Armament:
5 Pulse Laser (nose)
4 Rocket Launcher (fuselage)
1 Pulse Laser Turret (top)
1 Minigun Turret (Bottom)
2 Flak Turrets (sides)
2 Plasma Turrets (sides)

Thanks for the heads up to replace that thinner block. I think when I designed it, the half-blocks offered the same HP as full blocks at a lower weight (Or I did not realize that they had less HP back then)

In my personal use of the PAC I attached a couple more constructors on the sides of the ModularStorage after placing it. There was enough space on the sides, limit there was just the narrow door that I did not want to make wider due to it being a weakspot. This way players can constantly produce whatever resource they have stored (Concrete block grind: 2 SV constructors in parallel = 1 large or even adv. constructor).

I actually built a Pocket-Battleship on a whim yesterday that I still need to run a few paces before painting and uploading it. This one will have a advanced constructor, offline protection and many, many turrets (maybe 1 turret less than a survival game allows to spawn) at maybe 50% increased length and twice the volume.

Oh yeah, I had omitted it, since there is one in the ModularStorage unit, that provides this feature and more at the same volume of a CV o2 Station. It bugs me that some CV&BA parts are so huge compared to SV/HV parts without providing any advantage over the smaller versions.

One other thing I noticed, but it's easily fixed: there's no O2 station. Between the two passenger seats right in front of the warp tank makes a nice spot. I also replaced the block under it for more of a solid block, although I love the original design choices you made here! It looks clunkier my way, but it adds a nice feature. This ship is solid for such a small CV! Aesthetically, you nailed it. A nice little personal ship to pound around in!

Thanks Savinwraith, I will look them up.

I am not the best to ask about ship design, I am not that good at ships. My thing is more along the lines of bases. Looks good though.
For ship advice or review you should talk to Kieve, Zero-G, or SpaceHeinz

Yeah, send me a link and we build it together.

I was leaning the same way with a destroyer that I've started working on. I have the majority of engineering and main thrusters finished, but that's it. Interested in using that as a starting point?

Thanks JRS! Too bad HVs don't shoot while docked, since I also made a dockable defense module for this that is now out of order.

I think my next coop ship will have armored SV modules for more forward facing firepower.

The modular storage is badass in this! I really like the color scheme and overall exterior design, and a good use of space for such a small carrier.
