Introduction
Hello, i am historic, author of Industrial Rollers mod for RimWorld. in this tutorial, im gonna cover each one of the mod's features and provide some example usages of the mod.


Industrial Rollers on the Workshop
Machines
Power
All machines in the mod transfer power same way power conduits does. you only need to connect your power source to one roller in each chain.

Rollers - straight, left and right turns
Conveyor belts, the basic, bread and butter of the mod. allows you to chain them in order to transfer items.
In order to get your colonists to haul to a roller, place a stockpile on it. make sure that stockpile priority is the same as the destination stockpile to prevent the colonists from hauling the items over and over again.

Rollers will:
  • When connected to another roller will forward the item to the next roller.
  • When connected to stockpile, will place the item in the stockpile.
Rollers will forbid items until they reach a destination in order to prevent colonists from trying to haul them. on destination unreachable error, the rollers will allow the items to let the colonists (or you) handle the problem.
unreachable destinations could be:
  • Blocked by a building or item - for example, a wall.
  • Destination stockpile cant accept item - stockpile full or not configured to accept the item.

In-Wall Roller
Same as the basic rollers, can replace walls to transfer items between rooms. preserves the room temperature

Pushers
Scans items on a roller and selectively moving configured items to the roller or stockpile behind it. Use Storage settings to configure items

Can replace walls and preserves the room temperature like the In-Wall Roller.

Puller
Pulls items from a connected stockpile or roller into another stockpile or roller.
By selecting the Puller, you can chose a stockpile to fill. the Puller will then send items everytime said stockpile is not full. Best use with loops to return extras back.

Uses Storages settings configuration like the Pusher.
Can replace walls and preserves the room temperature like the In-Wall Roller.
Automated kitchen example
In this section, we are going to implement the kitchen that was showcased in the following video

The roller system in this kitchen will make sure each meal the cook makes is being sent into the fridge and that both the stockpiles near the cook are always filled.
The system utilizes all machines currently avaliable in the mod(version 1.1.0) and using a loop to make sure no resource is wasted by sending extra resources back to the fridge.

We start by making the kitchen itself, the layout is obviously up to you, this is the layout i ended with.
  • Back room - fridge stockpile
  • Left to cooking stove - 2x1 meat stockpile
  • Right to cooking stove - 2x1 vegetables stockpile
  • Behind cooking stove - 1x1 cooked meals stockpile

Handling cooked meals in this example is actually very simple!
all we need to do is build rollers from the "ready meal" stockpile into the fridge.
dont forget, use In-Wall Roller to replace the wall in order to preserve the room temperature!

At this stage, you can add your roller layout by installing the simple Straight roller, Left turn roller, and Right turn roller.
Note that everything in the mod can be rotated using the Q and E keys while placing.

In this example, we are making a loop to bring resources from the fridge and send extra ones back inside. note that you could have also merged the return rollers with the roller that sends ready meals to the fridge (selected one in the picture)!

Now, we can add the Pushers. they will be responsible for pushing items from the rollers to the stockpile they are connected to.

Select your Pushers and make sure to select which items you want them to transfer. on this pusher, we are taking vegetables.

Place your Pullers to take the raw food from the fridge stockpile into the roller. Pullers will take items from a stockpile or roller as long as a configured destination stockpile is not full.

Note that pullers and pushers both act like In-Wall Rollers and preserve the room temperature!

Next, we want to configure each of our pullers by setting the destination stockpiles to the two small stockpiles near the cook and configuring what resources we want to send them.

Make sure you have electricity connected. All parts transfer electricity between other parts that are directly connected to them (just like power conduit), so you can many times get away with a single power conduit connected directly to one roller.

Q: Factorio?
Not yet, but yes! this mod is inspired by Factorio!
Q: I can't find the mod additions in my game, where are they?
All additions are in the Industrial tab.
Q: why are my items forbidden?
Items become forbidden on rollers to prevent haulers from picking them up.

I used to be able to just put a, i want to say puller, in my stockpile area going right in to a fridge. Now they do not want to work like that. Is there a simple way of doing that? I do not want to take up a lot of room to just stock fridges with raw food for cooking.

The automatic kitchen doesn't seem to work the same as in the video. I keep getting stacks of food sitting outside the freezer area. I guess I could make my pawns work in a fridge. I don't see a way to only set things to only drop food to the area once someone is wanting to cook, or to only have one item come at a time

Love this mod. My pawns love to ignore cooking and are always near starving. I only have one issue, its with the puller. while pulling items from a stockpile, once the conveyor belt is full, the last item "flickers", it jumps from its location in the stockpile to the puller, and back again to its position in the stock pile. its not a big issue, but its awkward to see all the time. am I doing somthing wrong??

So after some messing around i got rid of the stockpiles used in cupros mod and used his filters on my vanilla stockpiles and the mod works. I dont know if its possible to combine the two or not. but if you cant doesnt matter this trumps his stuff :)

does this mod recgonize cupro's stock piles? It seems when i put a puller that is trying to pull from the veg stock pile it wont work. Same in the sense if i push into a stockpile it sits on the roller.
