Sonic 1 Megamix

Description
This particular version of Sonic 1 Megamix, from 2007, is a full game modification for Sonic 1, featuring five playable characters with their own unique movesets, new level layouts, and a ton of imported music

There were a few releases, with this being the most recent build that found its way into public hands and still ran on the Genesis, while newer versions run on the SegaCD and thus, unfortunately, can't be added to this Steam Workshop. I don't refer to this version as a "release" because it was actually distributed without permission by a disgruntled tester, and thus, is not complete or in true release condition

I wouldn't personally consider it worthy of upload, but there seems to be high demand for it anyway, and even if I weren't to upload it, other people would keep uploading it here without permission, in which case I wouldn't be able to say that I'm sort of personally embarrased by this version, and that it doesn't represent the most recent developments in this game (again, only available for SegaCD and impossible to put on Steam Workshop), nor does it represent any aspect of my work ethic or style

More information can be found at: http://www.teammegamix.com

Due to issues with the way the Genesis emulator works, even though Sonic 1 Megamix has a save feature, it is non-functional when playing through Steam. This is not something I can do anything about because the emulator basically just disables SRAM entirely without regard for the fact that it's defined in the ROM header. This makes it impossible to save progress, and some features relying on completed game saves (such as "Extra Mode") become virtually inaccessible

Being very old, as well as not intended for release, this version has a multitude of known issues, which include but are not limited to-

- Frequent and extreme slowdown
- Poor and unfair level design
- Various graphic glitches such as incorrect/missing/flickering/garbled sprites
- Various sound glitches such as cut-outs, blips, whines, etc
- Sunny Shores redesign in-progress containing mismatched graphics
- The lower path (but not upper) in Starry Night Zone 2 has a game-stopping collision bug
- Sprite walls (opposed to tiles) are unclimbable by Knuckles but haven't been removed/replaced yet
- "Original Mode" (Sonic 1 levels) are in worse shape than normal Megamix mode
- The final boss only takes one hit
- Most characters' ending sequences are incomplete and show incorrect animations
- Attract and Ending demos sequences are thoroughly broken
- Various other glitches prone to show up at any time
- A few ex- team members thought it'd be fun to include some vulgarities written in lights and prominent sexual innuendo
- Website advertisement screens (they werent credits, ex-members just wanted to shoe-horn in the ads)
- Even more stuff that's not worth dealing with here since this build is so old and development has already moved on

Because this was a development build, Sonic 1's standard Level Select and Debug Mode codes are still enabled, effectively allowing you to skip over any major problems you may encounter

Play at your own discretion. Aside from the many glitches, the planned newer, completed/cleaned/fixed version of this particular game will almost certainly not contain any major surprises for anyone who has played this version

The site may be dead, but I'm glad to have downloaded every prototype (including the “final” fifth prototype of the hack that has Sonic CD's special stage implemented), because this hack is downright awesome! Despite the bugs and the overall crashes, it's a great hack! 10/10!

By the way, debug mode and level select codes are required for the Act 4's and the other levels of the game beyond Dark Fortress Zone—Act 3, or else you'll either get stuck or die a lot.

It's literally an function of the emulator d3t were using.... It works for any game you play via this collection.

People have been telling me the rewind function is an emulation thing? So who invented the rewind function? I don't see this option in any other mod/romhack.

SilverHunterN the rewind is from the emulator, not the romhack

Rewinds is a thing from the emulator, not this romhack

Very good mod! Well done!

I really like the re-wind function you integrated, as this helps when I get stuck inside a wall. However, rewind does make the game very easy since I can abuse it to rewind after losing a life/get hit.

I read you couldn't get the save function to work, but that's okay because I can beat the game in less than an hour. I heard there was supposed to be act 4 versions but I can't unlock them for some reason...
