Act1: Dark Caves
The Baby Dragon

The Baby Dragon is a noticeable Boss, he is a rather small dragon with green skin and sleeps on the ground. When you approach him, he will wake up, fly into the air and will start spitting fire at you.

His Attacks are:
  • Spitting 3 Fireballs in your direction.
  • Turning Red and going into Berserk mode, which makes him faster.
  • Flying higher and quickly dashing into the ground.

The Fireball Attack

The Ground Pound

His Fireball attack is easy to dodge, either shoot arrows at them or hide somewhere.
He can only go into berserker mode when he has 50%HP left.
His Ground Pounding attack can easily be dodge by staying away or jumping at the right moment.

The Goblin King

The Goblin King is a Tricky enemy. He will patrol a small area, walking from left to right. When you approach him, he roars and will summon 2 normal Goblins. He will destroy spikes when he lands on them, but he will take damage by boulders.

His Attacks are:
  • Jumping to you and trying to grab and throw you.
  • A Charge Attack, which stunts him when hitting a wall.
  • Repeatedly jumping up and down, dealing damage when he lands on you.

The Start of the Grab Attack, followed by the Grab and when succesfully grabbed.

His Jump Attack

His Charge Attack

His grab attack is very lethal when you are near spikes or a pit, there is a chance of getting thrown right into them or against a wall which will knock you into them.
His Charge Attack is easy to dodge, just jump when he tries to leap.
His jumping attack is easy to dodge aswell by staying away or hiding under something.

The Rock Worm

The Rock Worm isnt your everyday Boss, the only way of triggering him is to kill the small worms that are scattered through the floor, kill 3 or 4 of the worms and the Rock Worm should appear, it spits Poisonballs at you, which travel through an arc. Try to hit it when its standing still after the attack.

Its Attacks are:
  • Spitting Poisonballs at you. The number increased the more damage it takes.
  • Vanishing into the ground and reappearing somewhere on the screen.
  • A Rage mode in which it will fire faster when below 50% HP

Kill those Worms to trigger the Boss.

Remember that it spits Poisonballs, with Poison Resistance 3 you are pretty much immune to the Poisonballs and try to stay still when the worm is about to jump out from somewhere and move when you see him.
Act2: Forest
The Mushroom Golem

The Mushroom Golem's new Design makes him stand out from the other golems now. He will throw Boulders at you which deal alot of damage, if you get too close to him, he will smash your face in with the standart golem attack.

His Attacks are:
  • A Ground Shockwave that deals alot of damage
  • A Spin Attack which will turn him into a ball that will run everything over
  • Throwing a Boulder which will deal alot of damage

The Boulder Attack (This attack shares its animation with the Shockwave Attack)

The Spin Attack

This Boss is very hard to defeat, he has alot of health and his attacks deal alot of damage and if he lands on your head, he will crush you, which instantly kills you. His Spin Attack can be reflected by shooting arrows at him. He will only use his Shockwave Attack when you are near him, same goes for the Boulder Attack but that applies to being too far away

The Vine Lord
The Vine Lord is a Boss that uses all kinds of attacks, long range, short range and poison. It moves by either walking, jumping or grappling onto walls with its vines.

Its Attacks are:
  • Poison Balls that leave a cloud of poison
  • Shooting 3 Darts
  • Spitting out 2 seeds that contain small Venus Maneating plants

When its hanging from the ceilling by one vine it will always spawn 2 small seeds.

It will spew out around 3-4 poison balls that will cover the area for 5 seconds.

You can kill these small ones here, 2 hits should be enough.

The Boss doesnt have a large health pool, just try not to get cornered and keep in mind, you will have an easier time fighting with poison resistance.

Wisp Queen

The Wisp Queen is a Wisp which is not only diffrent from size and colour of other Wisps, but it can also summon Wisps and throw them at you.

Its Attacks are:
  • Summoning 9 Wisps
  • It can Move the Wisps towards you and spin them around itself
  • Launch the wisps at you, which deal a moderate amount of damage

As you can see, its hard to attack the Wisp Queen without taking damage, attack when the Wisp Queen sends its Wisps away for a few seconds. Its hard to dodge the lauch attack, keep an eye out for other enemys who could interrupt you. Try to stay in it and spam attack.

Wisp Queen moving its summoned Wisps away for a few seconds
Act3: Catacombs
Necromancer

The Necromancer is a Blue-skinned necromancer who will summon 6 Skeletons that will fight you. The Skeletons are easy to kill, but they are still annoying.

His Attacks are:
  • Summoning 6 Skeltons, if a Skelton gets killed he will summon another one.

The Necromancer is about to summon his Skeletons

This Boss is pretty simple, kill the Skeletons, rush to him and damage him. The Skeletons could give you a hard time if your defense is bad, but they got around 20HP anyway.

Zombie Dragon

The Zombie Dragon is a Buffed out Version of the normal Green Dragon we know from Act1. Its faster, has more HP and does more Damage.

His Attacks are:
  • Throwing 4-6 Blue Fireballs at you one after another.
  • Throwing 4-6 Fireballs at the same time.
  • A Dash Attack which will, no matter if you are mid-air or not, deal damage when hitting a wall.

The Zombie Dragon unleashing his fury

Because this is a stronger version of the Act1 Dragon, you should use the same tactics, but still be carefull. Try to kill the Zombies and Hands in the area first before getting the Dragons attention.

    The Abomination

The Abomination is very strong and he moves with his strange tenticals and summons 4 small, throwable Rocks(?) that circle around him simillar to the Queen Wisp from Act2.

    His Attacks are:
    • Summoning 4 small, what seems to be, Rocks when getting his attention
    • Glowing red, indicating that he will throw his Rocks at you

There is no joking around with this guy, he is fast and his Rocks do alot of damage. Try to get close to him when he threw his Rocks and watch out for Zombies, Giant Hands and Traps.
Act4: Rift
The Brood Demon

The Brood Demon is a flying boss. He has the ability to spit bombs and eggs that contain a small enemy. His Dash Attack is also pretty hard to dodge.

His Attacks are:
  • Spitting Balls out that will hatch after a while
  • Spitting Bombs out that will explode after a while
  • A Dash that will do a moderate amount of damamge

His Dash Attack

Him spitting the Balls

and spitting the Bombs

This Boss is harder to defeat then you think. His bombs could throw you off the island, but you can pick them up and throw them off the island too, same goes for the eggballs. His Dash attack is hard to dodge, but it doesnt have alot of knockback. Try to go to an island with no Enemys

The Behemoth

This guy is acutally easy to defeat. Why? Because he is your everyday huge hand boss. Defeat his fists, his head will come down, beat the living crap out of the head, if you destroy the head the boss is defeated. Of course his hands will respawn with full HP and the head will go up again after that.

His Attacks are:
  • His fists come down to crush you, which will then create a shockwave
  • I saw a huge Thunder Attack, i dont know if that was the boss or not (He only used it once, need info)
  • He will send his fists offscreen which will then come down on you.

This Boss is easy to defeat, his biggest weakness is a bow with homing arrows. If you have a item that lets you jump higher you should try to get to his head and damage it. You should also consider to get him to a lone island with no monster on, it might be easy to fight this guy, but with alot of other monster roaming around it will be pretty tough.

The Shadow Knight

I love this boss, he is very strong and fast, and if you think you could kill him by sending him down into the abyss, he will teleport back to you with his sword in your tiny head. He is a mix of the Knight, Rogue and Wildling.

His Attacks are:
  • Normal Sword swings and when mid-air, he uses the pogo attack.
  • A Bow which he can aim up and down.
  • A Teleport spell which teleports him above you.
  • A Berserk Mode.

The Shadow Knight using the Bow

The Berserk Mode

The Pogo Attack

Now this Boss might be the toughest one, He is quick, he teleports, he goes into Berserk Mode when he lost 50% of his Health and he has a Bow. I only killed him twice from 10 runs and I can say that this guy is the best boss of Vagante. I just wish you could get a skin for the Knight after killing him.
Secret Bosses
The Shopkeepers
I know what you are thinking, but the Shopkeepers are pretty tough. They will follow you through the entire floor. You didnt kill the Shopkeeper on this floor but he has seen you? Well good luck with the next floor because that Shopkeeper is gonna follow you and come out of that door right after you, I mean whats better then fighting 1 Shopkeeper? Thats right, fighting 2 Shopkeepers on the same floor.

His Attacks are:
  • Swining his goldsack around.

This Indicates that he doesnt like what you just did.

For people who played Spelunky, you guys already know how the Shopkeepers are going to be through the game. But for players who dont know what im talking about, if you piss off one Shopkeeper, every Shopkeeper on this run wants his hands around your neck.

Book of Secrets Awards tied to this Boss:
  • Wanted; Get killed by a Shopkeeper 10 Times.

Evil Mage

The Evil Mage appears in The Ruins which is accesable in Act1's second floor with a key. The Evil Mage is a strong boss, he has alot of health and does ice damage.

His Attacks are:
  • Throwing 1-3 Iceballs at you.
  • Throwing 1-3 Iceballs at once.
  • A Frost Nova.
  • Charging his Frost Nova and then teleporting to you to release it.

The Evil Mage Charging his Frost Nova

The Evil Mage about to appear near the Player to release his Frost Nova

The Evil Mage is a Boss that does Ice Damage, with 3 Points in Ice Resistance, this boss should be easy to defeat. The Evil Mage is triggered when picking up the Gem that lays on somesort of altar somewhere in the Ruins.

Rainbow Slime

This Special Type of Slime only appears in a Rare Level of the Dark Caves. This Boss wont trigger any Combat Music nor will it have a Spotlight around it, I sadly do not have a Gif for you showing him (because a screenshot wont do the trick) but this Slime will change colours pretty quickly.

His Attacks are:
  • Jumping

Just keep your Distance, this Boss deals around 15-20 Damage and is really fast

Chimera
The Chimera is a Boss you encounter when you use a key and enter the Door in the Forest, which will lead you to the Forest Temple, this Boss is very diffrent from the others, the major thing bein that its a 2-in-1 deal, the the body itself being 1 Boss and the snake tail being another one

His Attacks are:
  • Spitting Poison balls at you
  • Spitting Flames

The Chimera throwing its flames

The Chimera's body is dead, but the Snake tail is not

The thing with this Boss is that even when you manage to kill it, the snake tail might still be alive, I threw a bomb on it once and it just killed the Chimera but not the snake tail, after I killed the snake tail it dropped a Rune Orb

The Tower Serpent

The Tower Serpent appears in the Tower, a area accessible from the Catacombs, similar to the Ruins in Act 1, it can only be accesed by opening the door with a key. The Special thing with the Tower Serpent is that it wont come after you as soon as it sees you, its trapped below you but there is this shiny little stone there.... wonder what happens if you pick it up

His Attacks are:
  • Dashing towards you, destroying blocks in its way

The Tower Serpent about to Dash

This here is the Trigger

This Boss is like the Ghost Mage from the Ruins, you trigger the Boss by picking up the Gem Stone thats right at the start, as soon as you pick it up, Combat music will trigger and the floor below you will release the monster, at the same time the water will rise fast, which means escaping just got alot more difficult then before, if you really only want the gem, try to get a hold on a pair of Wall Climbing Items or Infinte Jump Items. You can also just totally ignore him by not picking up that Stone, its already hard enough without this Boss on your tail. I had Defense of 19 and the boss dealt around 19 Damage so be careful
Thank you
This Guide is still W.I.P and will be for some time, I wanted to come back to this game, havent played it in a year or two and wanted to update it.
I still have to beat the game because I only ever reached the end when there was no real ending to this game, which I believe it now has an ending or atleast some sort of conclusion.
So thank you for reading, and I will update this guide as mentioned above more frequently now.

What about the final boss tho
Shakajolt Jun 10, 2018 @ 8:55pm
Dunno if this'll get updated again but... on the Water Snake, the water rises *regardless* of whether you take the item or not. Taking it *after* the arena fills iwth water utrned out to be a very ad idea for me, as I barely made it ot the top... however, almost all the bat creatures drowned, and getting to the top... the snake can't hit you if you're on the sides of the tower. Easy snipping+killing if you can outrun/escape to the top and bring it with you. It should aslo be noted that it *cannot* kill the block under the exit door... although I doubt that block provides mucha/ny defense. It *can* break the block before the boss chest, however, it will simply fall down to the next possible block.

Amazing guide, thank you a lot.

Little information: Unfortunately this thing has been changed during the updates but I will write it anyway.

When you are an archer and you try to kill the dragon boss ( first stage ), active your invisibility ( shadow skill needed ) and block the dragon in a corner.

The dragon won't shot any fire balls when you are using the invisibility. This will give you few seconds to attack him and after that running away and active the invisibility another time.

I really hope the developers will add again this feature, it makes everything more realistic. How can a dragon see you when you are invisible

Just saying the lion-goat-snake is called a chimera

Oh, oops. My bad. Still tho, Black Knight has ET, not Berserk.
Der dasMann  [author] Nov 25, 2016 @ 3:55am
(actually ment the forest temple boss)
Darqfalls Nov 24, 2016 @ 11:14pm
Also, the Black Knight doesn't have Berserk. It uses the Evil Transformation spell, or a modified version at least. When it uses that it'll get 1 point of health back for every point of damage it does.
Darqfalls Nov 24, 2016 @ 11:12pm
They added the rainbow slime dozens of builds ago. Hell it might have been included in the first alpha build. But it's super rare and I believe it was inaccessible for the longest time, but you can fight against it during the Slimey Floor event.
Der dasMann  [author] Nov 24, 2016 @ 5:06am
Well I'll be damned, I did not know that they added a new boss, anyway I added the Forest Temple boss to the Secret Bosses section
