Introduction

"Let's do this!"
Section 1: Does your computer meet the minimum requirements to run Creativerse?
The minimum requirements are:

"I don't know where to check this"

Windows users, please do the following:
  1. Click on the Start menu and then click on Run.
  2. Type in dxdiag and hit OK.
  3. In the first tab (System), you will find the Processor and the Memory.
  4. In the third tab (Display), you will find the Name which is your video card's model and Approx. Total Memory which is your video card memory.
Mac users, please do the following:
  1. Click on the Apple menu and choose About This Mac.
  2. In the first tab (Overview), you will find the Processor, Memory, Memory, and Graphics.

"My computer system barely meets the minimum requirements."

In the visual options menu (From any world, Esc > Game Options > Visuals), lower your visual settings. Reduce quality, view radius, and shadow quality, and turn off sun shafts. See also Section 5.

"My computer system doesn't meet the minimum requirements."

If your system doesn't meet the minimum specs, you will likely need to consider upgrading your computer hardware in order to play Creativerse.

"Oh yeah, my system is fast like the wind!"

Good! Move to Section 2.
Section 2: Is your video card running the latest video drivers?
"Wait up -- I don't know where to check my video drivers."

Windows users, please do the following:
  1. Click on the Start menu and then click on Run.
  2. Type in dxdiag and hit OK.
  3. Clicking on the second tab (Display), you will find the Name and Manufacturer of your video card.
  4. The Name will tell you which manufacturer's site you need to go to for a driver update. Make sure you pick the driver matching your video card name and Operating System!
Some of the more common video drivers: NVIDIA Graphic Drivers , ATI Graphic Drivers, Intel Graphic Drivers.

Mac users: you likely don't need to do anything to keep your drivers updated. Software Update will notify you if anything system-related needs to be updated.

"I have the most recent driver for my video card. Believe it!"

Perfect. Move to Section 3.
Section 3: Are you running an antivirus program or any apps that block HTTP communication?
Add the following exclusions to these apps:

"No problem, except... I don't know how to add exceptions!"

It's usually easy! Here are links to instructions for adding exceptions in some of the most common web security programs:

Program
Link to Instructions for Adding Exceptions
Bitdefender
K9 Web Protection
Kaspersky
Malwarebytes
Symantec

"Uh oh. Looks like I use a program you didn't list."

Check the program's website for instructions, or Google it! (i.e. "How to add an exception to [name of the program]")
Section 4: Do you have a firewall?
Make sure traffic is allowed on these ports:
  • UDP 14000 - 15000
  • UDP 27000 - 27037
  • UDP 4380
  • TCP 27014 - 27050

"I don't know how to open these ports."

For Windows Firewall, please use this guide from Microsoft[windows.microsoft.com].

If your router has a firewall, the process depends on your specific router model. Google it!
Section 5: A Broader Approach...
Assuming your PC meets the minimum requirements (see Section 1), the below refresh/upgrade routine is likely to address most known problems in one shot. Please do the following steps in the exact order listed:
  1. Exit Steam completely.
  2. On Windows, set Steam to run as an Administrator (Right-click the Steam shortcut > Properties > Compatibility > Select Run this program as an administrator).
  3. Re-launch Steam.
  4. Uninstall Creativerse (From your Steam library, right-click Creativerse and select Delete Local Content...).
  5. Install the latest video drivers for your video card (see Section 2).
  6. Validate your antivirus and web security settings (see Section 3).
  7. Validate your firewall settings (see Section 4).
  8. (Re)install Creativerse.
Section 6: Are you having other technical problems?
"Yes, Steam tells me to launch the game from Steam, but I'm already doing that."

Reinstalling the game (see Section 5) sometimes fixes this, but otherwise this error message might specifically be the result of the MSVCR (MS Visual C++ Runtime) dll failing to install correctly. There is a copy of the installer for the version Creativerse uses in the Creativerse directory here:
[Steam Folder]\SteamApps\common\Creativerse\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\vcredist_x86.exe

You can also download the installer directly from Microsoft here[www.microsoft.com].

You may need to restart Windows afterwards.

"I can't read the text on the main menu. The letters look like little squares."

This is usually fixed by updating your video card drivers (see Section 2). If you've completed that step, here are two other things you can try:
  • Disable the Steam overlay for Creativerse (From your Steam library, right-click Creativerse > Properties > General > uncheck Enable the Steam Overlay) and restart the game.
  • Verify that Creativerse is running on your dedicated graphics card with maxed-out performance settings. This process varies by graphics card, but there’s a guide from PC Advisor here.[www.pcadvisor.co.uk]
"That stuff didn't work either!"

Fine. Try this workaround, but you'll probably have to do it every time you want to play. Don't say we didn't warn you.
  • Run the game
  • Lock your screen (Windows: Windows key + L)
  • Log back in to Windows

"That worked! Wait... why did that work?"

. . .

"OK, forget I asked. Anyway, I think I have a different problem, but it's possible I missed something"

Sure! Create a new thread in our Bugs & Issues subforum and explain exactly what sort of problems you have.

"But wait -- I think I'm on to something here. This could be a new bug!"

Nice! Create a new thread in our Bugs & Issues subforum and explain the bug as clearly as possible (steps to reproduce the bug are a huge plus).
Section 7: Contact Support
"Okay, okay. I did all of this stuff and nothing helped."

Thanks for trying! Email us at support@playfulcorp.com and attach your output_log.txt file (on Windows, found in [Steam Folder]\SteamApps\common\Creativerse\creativerse_Data\output_log.txt) as well as a description of exactly what sort of problems you have. Our support desk can try to help.

You may need to be patient with it, though. It's a desk.

Hey, I want to play with my friend but just can't manage to. Years ago we only had to just create a world, find it and have fun, but now we can't find each others world in the public section, and don't know what to do! Please help.

I logged on 2 hrs ago and my textures are glitching hard. They are rolling around assets on everything within a roughly 12-16 claim area around my character, when viewing the map, but not beyond. I satisfy the minimum requirements on a macbook pro. I tried all resolution, quality and antialiasing settings to no avail. I verified files on steam to no avail. I reinstalled to no avail. Am I the only one?
