How to Tame the Gigantopithecus the easy way
By SkyDotNET
This is a guide about how to tame the Gigantopithecus (even lvl 120 ones!) very easy without having to run arround behind it and maybe lose all your progress because of several accidents that could happen.

Introduction

Hello Survivors :) this guide is about how to tame the new and awesome apes without having issues with running arround them for hours, because that method can be very frustrating as the risk to lose the taming progress is very high.

IF THIS GUIDE HELPED YOU, PLEASE GIVE IT A THUMBS UP :)
Thx for all upvoters and i really appreciate it.
(and maybe follow me on twitch.tv/skydotnet :D)

I successfully tamed about 8 apes with this method. However, there are several issues you can run into. Take a look at the "Known Issues" section of this guide for this.

Problems you can have while taming an ape:
  • Losing taming progress because you had to wait too long to get a good position to feed it
  • Losing the ape to a wild carnivore appearing in front of you (especially the raptors are known for doing that, because they have a wide range detection radius)
  • Losing the taming progress by just getting killed by the ape (they are really strong, especially at higher levels)
  • Losing the taming progress because it wanders to a place where you can't follow (f.e. jumping down a cliff or something like that)

With this guide you will get rid of that and you will have unlimited time to tame it.

Prerequisites

You will need to craft some items for the taming process:

  • 4 Wooden Fence Foundations (Yout can try it with a thatch/wooden foundation but I don't recommend that)
  • 16 Thatch walls
  • 1 Thatch Door Frame
  • 1 Wooden Hatchframe
  • 1 Wooden Pillar
  • 2 Wooden Ramps

So you will need the following ressources in total:

  • 232 thatch
  • 288 wood
  • 161 Fiber

Your question may be: Why Thatch? Wood is better!!! Or even Metal!!!
My Answer:
That wouldn't work, on metal it would kill itself, on wood it would take too long till it gets unraged again by destroying it (and also wood is very expensive... it would just be a waste of mats to replace it).
However, you can try to prove what I say, but remember that I've already tried that before writing this guide ;).
1. Preparing the taming box
First you'll have to prepare the Taming Box, so put a 1x1 Fence foundation on the floor (doesn't matter where, but it would be good if you build it somewhere near the ape):

Hint: MAKE SURE THE 4 FENCE FOUNDATINS SNAP TO EACH OTHER!

Then put Thatch Walls on 2 sides of the 1x1 Fence Foundations and a thatch door frame with a wall on top on one of the left sides:

Now Step 1 is ready. Go to the ape and...
2. Lead your ape into the box and trap it
The next step is to make the ape chasing you.
To achieve this, just run arround it and touch it while doing so.
As soon as it rages, run into the box through the side where no walls are and wait in the box for the ape to step in too.

As soon as it's near you and in the box, walk backwards outside the box through the doorframe you placed.
Now select the other Thatch walls you have prepared in your building slot, and close the walls behind the ape:

It will continue to rage on you and your building.
To prevent the ape from breaking out, just replace all walls by replacing them with new ones (should be 8, you will also have to replace the door frame).

The ape then thinks that there is nothing to destroy anymore, because the walls are destroyed inside the game mechanics from the view of the ape now.
3. Make the ape accessible for you
Now place the pillar next to the box (it should snap on the fence foundations). This is just to have a foundation support nearby for the wooden ramp.

After that attach the 2 ramps from the top wall to the floor, so you can run up to the top of the box.
Then go up and place the Wooden Hatch frame.

It should look like this when you are finished:

Now you can tame the ape without any problems :)
Happy taming survivors!
Known issues
There are several issues that can happen to you while taming the ape and thus you can lose it.

Physics bug: If you move too far away from the taming spot, the ape can magically teleport outside the 1x1 Box (this usually only happens if you leave the rendering distance)

Ape Behaviour Bug: Although they said in the changelogs they fixed the issue, it can still happen that the ape rages infinitely, sometimes it can help to leave the rendering distance, but often it doesn't

Internal Value Handling Bug: Another weird thing that can happen is that the ape's health and food values somehow SWITCH internally (serverside), this causes that the ape loses health instead of food. It will slowly die because of that, this bug is írreversible, you cannot do anything against it (I tried: hitting it, relog, leaving rendering area, hitting it with a dino and many more things). When this happens you will not be able to feed it anymore because the food status never changes again.

It destroys the Fence Foundations while raging: this is the only legit way it can fail, if the ape destroys the fence foundations the whole building will break and the ape will be free, this was reported by another user via the comments and never happened to me but I mention it here just in case.

I haven't looked through the comments yet, but I just wanted to mention that you can easily pick them up with an Argentavis and just drop it into your regular taming box. To make it loose aggro, just fly up high and then you can take your time, too.
