Contextual Unit Names
2 items
Description
This mod aims to add a bit of variety to your units name. Based on where a unit was born (or upgraded), it gets a unique name. Units like "7th Cavalry of Warsaw", or "15th Artillery of Delhi", will be comman place in your army (except the city name depends on the cities you have). "Enemy Reconnaissance" is the third expansion to this mod.

Note: To remove "(Scout)" / "(Warrior)" / "(Archer)" ... from the Unit Panel use my optional add-on. Please go to mod-page for more info. Link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=487444900

Enemy Reconnaissance: Features
  1. Instead of having to switch presets, every time you entered a new era, there is now a preset for each era that cycles through automatically.
  2. There is now a "Overall Preset", that basically sets all the presets for each era. Easier way to understand this is, "Overall Preset" is a preset for presets. Note: If using a mod that changes eras (like add more or completely change them), please read through compatibility section.
  3. Like most things in this mod, you can change each individual era-preset from "Advanced Settings."
  4. Till now only human units were named, but now I have add a feature for enemy units to be named. So in addition to adding context to all your units, this mod adds context to non-human players. Note: This feature REQUIRES my add-on, because you wont be able to see enemy units name, even though they will be named. Because of this, I have disabled this feature, but I recommenend enabling this within the advanced settings panel, if you are using my add-on

Other Features
  1. When picking era-presets, you can pick from a huge variety of them, including my favourite "Glory of Rome".
  2. You can now create upto 8 total custom preset (1 for each era).
  3. If it wasn't clear before, there is a In-Game Setting panel in the Diplo Corner Dropdown (top right of the screen), that allows you change presets, and create custom presets.
  4. Starting unit is named according to your leader. You might meet the enemy leader on the battlefield. Can you lead yourself through a domination victory?
  5. The heart of this mod lies in the custom presest. As long as you don't get overwhelmed by a lot of options, you can customize the name to a crazy level. (I am working on guide to help you do that)

How it Works
  1. Each name has three parts to it. Number - CombatClass - Context.
  2. But there is also a setting for how these parts are arranged, and how each part connects to the other.
  3. A preset automatically applies a pre-defined values to the previously mentioned settings.
  4. The mod automatically counts the number of units, and names are not recycled (so when a unit dies, so does its name and you can't get it back)
  5. Whenever a unit is created, it checks in which era the unit's owner belongs to, applies the settings accordingly, and then names the unit.

Compatability
  • I have added a special "Compatibility Mode", that disables the auto-change preset code, and forces only one preset to used at all times. Use this mode when playing with mods that have altered Eras.xml. You can find this setting in the Advanced Settings Panel.
  • This mod was designed to work alongside my add-on. Link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=487444900
  • Other than the Era quirkness, the base mod is compatabile with most mods I know. Let me know if you notice some particular issues.

Credits
  1. whoward69, for his plot iterators.
  2. Baron von Porkenstein, his comment inspired me to create the Roman Naming skew.

Other Random Stuff

I just want to thank all those people that subscribed, favourited, and rated my mod. It's great to see your support, and I intend to continue updating my mod.

If you notice a bug, or some historical inaccuracy don't feel afraid to comment and let me know. I'll try to patch it as quickly as possible. Also if you have an idea of what more naming skews I should include let me know.

CBP states that this mod is compatible, but it isn't working for me. Am I doing something wrong? I did put it in compatability mode.

If I turn it to use only 1 name preset, will it still break if I use Englightment Era?

How to use different presets at the same time? So I can use two or more presets for each unit like air units and ground units.

Now I'm confident of it. It's not conflicting with any other mods either, because even if the only mods on are Contextual Unit Names+add-on, it's still broken.

I am 95% sure, that unfortunately this mod is breaking the aircraft UI in my savegames. Either with or without the add-on, the small UI from where to select aircraft stationed in city/carrier is broken. I use a lot of mods, but I have narrowed the problem down to this mod. I absolutely love the mod, but I've had this problem for some time now and it's getting quite annoying.
