Step 1. Download and extract the WAD
These files Require a source port with compatability for MP3/OGG playback
I highly recommend GZDoom: https://gzdoom.drdteam.org/page.php?page=download

Since Big Brother Steam will never allow any Download links even if they are 100% safe and serve a legitimate purpose, I have to link to a pastebin with the links. Apologies for the inconvienence. Feel free to message me with any problems/concerns!

Download Links at: https://pastebin.com/Ych6dMuU

File Info:
PC CD-Rom Music: hexCDmus.wad (124MB)
*N64 Remastered Music:hex64mus.pk3 (57MB)

Be sure to extract the file to the same directory as HEXEN.wad

*this is a re-upload since the authors (Acidglow) original website is down
Step 2. Add the WAD to your lauch commands
Through Steam you can set launch options
Depending on your setup they should look something like
-file hexCDmus.wad

For N64 music
-file hex64mus.pk3
Notes
  • Hexen CD music is very similar to the General Midi used by default in game, however comparing the two one would note that the CD is indeed higher quality. That's because the CD recordings were done on a Roland Sound Canvas which was the way most midi composers at the time wanted their music to be heard.

  • Hexen N64 music uses notably higher quality instruments as the tracks were reworked for the Nintendo 64. Compare Winnowing Hall for yourself here: N64 Version/PC General Midi Version

  • This should also work with the Deathkings expansion after it is patched to version 1.1, as the Steam version of Deathkings is just version 1.0.

As far as I concerned it's not going to be easy. At first Steam Deck is not on Windows, but on Linux, which is really tricky for those who never had any experience with it. Make sure GZDoom is installed correctly and actually runs. Then you need to know how PWADS (additional files like mods) work with GZDoom in Linux, since this guide only have instruction for those who's using Windows. Then again. Linux has ZDL in it, and it works the same way the "dosbox rename" way for Windows users. ZDL making it much easier to actually manage and open mods.

CN this possibly be more clear. I'm literally pulling my hair out for this. Using gz doom how do I get N64 music to work? I have the file downloaded. Now what the heck do I do with it? Where does it go exactly?
