Mercenary Army Expanded

Description
For BNW
This mod expands the roster of units that can be purchased when you adopt the Mercenary Army policy in the Commerce tree in order to make it relevant past the Medieval Era. The units now available through this policy are:

Landsknecht: Raiding Unit - same stats as in the regular game (available at Civil Servants)
Swiss Guard: Defensive Unit - strength 24, has a bonus to combat when in friendly territory and a massive defensive bonus when next to your capital (available at Metallurgy)
Foreign Legion: Offensive Unit - same stats as in the regular game (available at Replaceable Parts)

The upgrade path for these units is as follows:
Landsknecht -> Swiss Guard -> Foreign Legion -> Infantry
Note: When you upgrade to the Infantry unit, your unit gains the negative promotion "Foreign Fighters" which causes your unit to ignore the positive bonuses received from Great Generals and to gain XP at half the normal rate.

The Volunteer Army policy remains unchanged.

Installation: subscribe to mod, Steam should do the rest.

Languages: English only

Compatibility: This mod changes data related to the Mercenary Army policy, Landsknecht unit, and Foreign Legion unit. It should be compatible with any mod that does not change these.

completely ruins the strat of taking poland into the information era then buying landschnekts upgrading them all the way to heli gunship and then enjoying your absolutely perfect raiding/harassment unit.

Glad you like the mod. Unfortunately, unit modeling is not in my skillset (thus, I only use units others have made), so I will not be able to rescale the models.

Love the mod. It seems that the Swiss Guard are a tad bit tall. Was wondering if you could take the time to rescale them so they don't look a little off?

I considered but rejected that idea, as mercenaries in the modern world take a back seat to national troops so I didn't think it was necessary to have a modern unique military mercenary unit.

All I can say is try reinstalling the mod, as I don't know why a texture would be missing. I have limited troubleshooting capabilities, and if I can't replicate an error someone else is having on my own machine than I am unable to fix it.

Have you considered adding a unit for later eras? A private security contractor or something (something with a better name, but that kind of soldier)

The Swiss Guard texture was missing for me. :(

@Rookie

I quite like the fact that it ends at infantry with the "Foreign Fighters" promotion, it represents PMC's quite well.

Glad you like it. I was fortunate to find someone to reskin the model and do an icon for me, as my strengths are more on the coding side of things and not the art side, but art really does make a mod more polished.
