A basic guide to Damned
By leoncio
This is a guide for new people in the game, it simply states the basic mechanics of the game, this is not an in-depth survival/monster strategy guide.

Damned
Damned is a horror game where you wake up in an abandoned building with 3 other people, and together you must work your way to make it ou alive.

To make your first experience better, I recommend playing the game without having read any guide at all.

The game is on its early alpha, so you may find some bugs. If you do, please report them in the discussions forums.

If you have problems with the game that aren't addressed in this guide, you should check the discussions or other people's guides.
Survivor
As a survivor, your objective is to collect items to unlock doors and find your way out of the building, while looking out of the monster, who is hunting you down. You're only a human, against a paranormal being, so your only bet is to hide from the monster or run away from him.

Keys used by survivors:
Left click - Pick up items, interact with doors and other things that can be opened
Right click - Turn on and off your flashlight
Shift - Run
Alt - Walk slowly
Ctrl - Crouch

  • To unlock doors, you must first have the appropiate and right key for the door you want to open. Once you have it, simply left click on the door and it should give you a message that it has been opened.
  • Opening and closing doors and other things can be tricky. You must first point at the door, left click it, then move backwards or forward.

Items

In order to escape, you must first find some items to proceed. The items you pick up will be shown in the right of your screen. These items can be:

  • Rusty key
  • Metal key
  • Silver key
  • Kitchen key
  • Depot key
  • Numeric code
  • Crowbar (This might not appear in your inventory, possibly because of a bug)

Keys are needed to unlock doors. Numeric codes are used to open safe boxes, and the crowbar is used to take off wood planks off some doors. (It has been reported that sometimes the wood planks will come off with keys instead of needing a crowbar)

When a player dies (disconnecting or killed by the monster), his or hercorpse will be flashing. You can inspect his body by left clicking it. If it has any items, you will pick up all the items he or she had.

Tips for survivors:
  • If you hear a loud noise, it means that you have activated a trap. It is recommended that you turn off your flashlight and you get as far away as possible from your current location.
  • Stamina drains out rather quickly, so it is recommended that you use it wisely.
  • The monster, in its physical form, cannot see very well in the dark, so if you're being chased, it is recommended that you turn off your flashlight.
  • Reading the monster guide can help you understand how the monster works and help you avoid him and survive.
  • Press enter to talk in the chat and communicate with other survivors
  • There are 2 music changes. The first one means the monster has spawned somewhere close. If you spot the monster, the music will change again.
  • When attacking, the monster makes a characteristic noise. Learn what it sounds like, and if you ever hear it again, run from wherever you are.

The escape room should look like this. To successfully escape, everyone alive has to walk towards the wooden planks.

The Monster
As the monster, your job is to hunt down survivors before they manage to escape the building.

Keys used when being the monster:

Left click - Attack (physical), set traps (ghost)
Right click - Switch to ghost/physical form

Ghost form

When you're in the ghost form, you can move around the map quickly. You won't see the doors, so you can move from rome to room without being blocked by doors. When you first spawn, you will be in your ghost form, and you'll have to wait some time before switching to your physical form.

When you're in your ghost form, you cannot see other players, but you can set traps (the flashing objects) that will be activated whenever a survivor walks near them, and that's how you will be finding the survivors.

Your screen will be blue while your physical form is on cooldown. It will turn yellow once you are able to switch.

Physical form

When you're in your physical form, you can now see the survivors and listen to them (and they can see you too!), but your speed will be greatly reduced, as well as your sightness (everything will be darker). While on physical form, you should focus on killing the survivors with your left click attack. You can only be in physical form for 30 seconds until you automatically go back to ghost form, and you won't be able to switch again for a while. However, you can switch back to ghost form sooner using right click, which will lower your physical form's cooldown.

Tips for playing the monster:
  • Hide in the darkness. The survivors will have trouble spotting you unless you walk below a lamp, or they turn on their flashlight on you.
  • Manually switch back to your ghost form to get a lower cooldown
  • Your attacks make a characteristic noise, so only attack when you are sure you can get a kill. Otherwise, you will only alert the survivors of your presence, and they will run away.

This is a WIP guide!
You can comment with suggestions and things that you think should be added (or changed) to this guide.

I felt like some people needed a guide to get started playing this game, so here I created a basic guide to it. I hope my guide was useful for you.

Good luck escaping.
You'll need it.

Thanks for this concise guide. This is just what I was looking for: the very basic mechanics of the game, since the game as it is has hardly any teaching other than losing online for kicks.

The Phantom is blind and goes by sound, you can walk freely around with the phantom being in the same room as you without being noticed but if you sprint or walk passed a trap and it ets off you have to run! you can be seen for 5 seconds before becoming invisible again dont hide she knows your locations. Just keep walking and remember to look back to check on her location. Also doors cannot save you, and she can feel you when your too close.
