Tech housing layouts
By Glyphis
A step by step walkthrough to build your own Tech megacity. Deep Ocean DLC is required for this layout!
For this guide, I'll be using a layout from the official Anno 2070 Wiki website, made by Falk Keegan.
This guide will give you a step by step building plan, including schematic layouts and all the required building materials for each step in the process of building a large Tech city with close to 200 residences and more than 5000 inhabitants!

Step 1: where do I build that thing?
For this layout, we will need an empty box of about 84x41 tiles. So your first priority is to search for an island that holds such a large area.
You can 'measure' the amount of free space with roads. An example: if I place a road across some free space, it will show you the amount of credits spent on this road. Lets say the road has cost you 145 credits. A single piece of road costs 5 credits. This means that the road of 145 credits is actually 29 tiles long (145 / 5 = 29).
By using this technique, you can measure the amount of space you have and decide if you have enough space to build this layout.
Step 2: new nerds in town
After you have found the right spot to build your megacity, start off by building your first Tech city centers, Laboratories and Assistants' Domiciles.

In this step you will build:
- 50 Assistants' Domiciles.
- 1 Tech city center.
- 2 Laboratories.

Required building materials:
- 165 ton building modules.
- 113 ton tools.
- 20 ton carbon.
- 12000 credits (ex. roads).

Green: Assistants' Domicile
Yellow: Tech city center
Light red: Laboratory

The build
Pretty straightforward: just build the residences as shown in the layout. After you have build the residences the Laboratory should have been unlocked and ready to be build.

When you have finished building this layout, move to step three.
Step 3: more geeks are needed
After completing step two, we move to step three: building some more residences as well as some much needed service buildings.

In this step you will build:
- 44 Assistants' Domiciles.
- 1 Tech city center.
- 2 Laboratories.
- 2 Police stations.
- 2 Fire stations.
- 2 Hospitals.

Required building materials:
- 187 ton building modules.
- 149 ton tools.
- 20 ton carbon.
- 15600 credits (ex. roads).
- Additional building modules, tools and carbon to upgrade your Assistants' Domiciles to Researchers' Apartments (5 ton building modules, 4 ton tools and 3 ton carbon per Domicile).

Green: Assistants' Domicile
Yellow: Tech city center
Light red: Laboratory
Blue: Hospital
Red: Fire station
Brown: Police station

The build:
Start off by building the two service buildings rows. After you have done that, extent the building area by building a second city center. Add the residences as shown in the layout.

When you have finished building this layout, move to step four.
Step 4: we keep expanding...
After completing step three, we move to step four: building some more residences as well as some much needed service buildings. Fact: this is the exactly same layout used in step three, only mirrored.

In this step you will build:
- 44 Assistants' Domiciles.
- 1 Tech city center.
- 2 Laboratories.
- 2 Police stations.
- 2 Fire stations.
- 2 Hospitals.

Required building materials:
- 187 ton building modules.
- 149 ton tools.
- 20 ton carbon.
- 15600 credits (ex. roads).
- Additional building modules, tools and carbon to upgrade your Assistants' Domiciles to Researchers' Apartments (5 ton building modules, 4 ton tools and 3 ton carbon per Domicile).

Green: Assistants' Domicile
Yellow: Tech city center
Light red: Laboratory
Blue: Hospital
Red: Fire station
Brown: Police station

The build:
Start off by building the third city center and the additional residences. After you have done that, you can add the two rows of service buildings.

When you have finished building this layout, move to step five.
Step 5: are we there yet?
After completing step four, we move on to step five: adding the last batch of residences and Laboratories. Fact: this is the same layout used in step two, only mirrored.

In this step you will build:
- 50 Assistants' Domiciles.
- 1 Tech city center.
- 2 Laboratories.

Required building materials:
- 165 ton building modules.
- 113 ton tools.
- 20 ton carbon.
- 12000 credits (ex. roads).

Green: Assistants' Domicile
Yellow: Tech city center
Light red: Laboratory
Blue: Hospital
Red: Fire station
Brown: Police station

The build:
Start off by building the fourth and last city center. After that, add the final residences and the final two Laboratories.

When you have finished building this layout, move to step six.
Step 6: time for some advanced research
After completing step five, we move on to step six: adding Academies and Information centers.

In this step you will build:
- 4 Academies.
- 2 Information centers.

Required building materials:
- 80 ton building modules.
- 78 ton tools.
- 110 ton carbon.
- 46000 credits (ex. roads).
- Additional building modules, tools and carbon to upgrade your Assistants' Domiciles to Researchers' Apartments (5 ton building modules, 4 ton tools and 3 ton carbon per Domicile).
- Additional tools and carbon to upgrade your Researchers' Apartments to Geniuses' Residences (6 ton tools and 2 ton carbon per Apartment).

Green: Assistants' Domicile
Yellow: Tech city center
Light red: Laboratory
Blue: Hospital
Red: Fire station
Brown: Police station
Orange: Academy
Purple: Information center

The build:
Just build the Academies and the Information centers in the center lane, clean and simple.

When you have finished building this layout, move to step seven.
Step 7: forum? What forum?
After completing step six, we move on to step seven: building the Science forum.

In this step you will build:
- The Science forum.

Required building materials:

Tier one (fundation):
- 250 ton building modules.
- 150 ton tools.
- 100 ton glass.
- 100 ton steel.
- 75 ton carbon.
- 150000 credits.

Tier two:
- 300 ton tools.
- 160 ton concrete.

Tier three:
- 300 ton tools.
- 320 ton wood.

Tier four:
- 300 ton tools.
- 120 ton carbon.

Green: Assistants' Domicile
Yellow: Tech city center
Light red: Laboratory
Blue: Hospital
Red: Fire station
Brown: Police station
Orange: Academy
Purple: Information center
Olive green: Science forum

After completing the build of the Science forum, move on to the final step: step eight.
Step 8: Science forum aftermath
After completing the build of the Science forum in step seven, there are a few options left to optimalize your Tech city:

- You can decide to build four more residences in front of the Science forum, that's totally up to you. If you don't need more residences, just place some decorative stuff on the empty lot.
- You can remove the City centers to create some more room for a few more residences. I personally just removed them and filled the empty lots with some holograms of sea creatures.
- You can remove the Information centers, though I wouldn't recommend that.

Some tips to make your Tech city look a bit more flashly and shiny:

- Replace the standard roads with F.A.T.H.E.R.-promenade. This adds like LCD screens and additional lights to your streets.
- Make a border using hedges (Eco add-on).
- Add some holograms of sea creatures: they have some kind of Tech-ish appearance.
What have we been building?
By following the eight steps to build your own Tech megacity, you now have:

- A large city, built to impress friends and enemies.
- At least 188 residences for your inhabitants.
- At least 4835 inhabitants, divided into: 380 Assistants, 2607 Researchers and 1848 Geniuses.
- 100% Hospital coverage, 100% Fire station coverage and 96% Police station coverage.
- 8 Laboratories running at 500%.
- 4 Academies running at 500%.

In the end, your city will look something like this:

The total costs
To build this Tech megacity, you will have to meet these requirements:

Building materials (ex. building materials for upgrades and roads):
- 1034 ton building modules.
- 1652 ton tools.
- 320 ton wood.
- 100 glass.
- 160 ton concrete.
- 100 ton steel.
- 385 ton carbon.
- 251200 credits.

Total maintenance costs (default settings)*: 3770
Total energy usage (default settings)*: 978
Total negative influence on ecobalance (default settings)*: -150

* Measured while Laboratories and Academies are idling/not researching.

Besides these requirements, you will also need to build almost all the other buildings that will be unlocked during your game. Futhermore, patience is required aswell :P.
How to keep things running
To keep all your inhabitants happy, you will need some production plants to produce various goods like Functional food, Functional drinks, Neuroimplants, etc. With a little help from a calculator, I calculated how much factories/farms you will need to keep this city running. All plants are calculated on default (=100%) productivity.

The following buildings are needed:
  • 5 Fisheries
  • 9 Functional food factories, which require:
    • 9 Aquafarms
  • 6 Energy drink factories, which require:
    • 6 Sugar beet plantations
    • 6 Coffee plantations
  • 8 Immunity drug manufacturers, which require:
    • 8 Gen farming laboratories
    • 4 Coral breeders
  • 7 Cybernetic factories, which require:
    • 7 Sponge farms
    • 4 Chip factories or 3 Electronic recyclers
  • 5 Laboratory outfitters, which require:
    • 5 Platinum metal converters
    • 5 Iron smelters
  • 2 Bionic factories, which require:
    • 2 Biopolymer factories, which require:
      • 2 Aqua farms
      • 4 Corn farms
    • 2 Hydraulic factories, which require:
      • 2 Platinum metal converters
      • 2 Oxidation facilities, which require:
        • 4 Lithium production facilities
        • 4 Fat factories
FAQ's
'How do I produce all those huge amounts of goods needed for the build of this city?'
That's pretty simple: just build enough factories/farms so you always will have enough goods. When you have little space for all your buildings and therefore you are looking to build your buildings as space-efficient as possible, you might want to take a look at my other guides for all sorts of production layouts (yes, this is shameless self-promotion).

'Do you like My Little Pony?'
No, I don't.

'Those 1000+ tons of building modules and tools... you made a typo there right?'
Sorry, I didn't. You really need that much goods.

Hi, i recently just finished mission monumentality. your monument guides really helped. it was my first time attempt at such a monumental task. i couldn't keep the production chains smooth. took me 39 hrs to finish it. made a lot of mistakes and learnt new stuff. even after playing for such a long time. i look forward to reusing your guide in future, towards a new and better attempted mentalmonument mission. this one towards the end had a nuclear meltdown and i barely managed to finish it(only tycoon execs goal was left to be done and they were 3500/5000 + medicines stockpiled).
Thanks a lot for your guide!

Happy to help. It might also be worth mentioning the wikia. The community has done an excellent job of getting pretty much all the basics documented without going way overboard the way some sites, like, say the Elder Scrolls wiki, does. It also has links to a bunch of different supply calculators and production layouts to help people trying to supply megacities

Thomas: Your population numbers are done using space saving tips, but your "how to keep things running" list is not.

With Space Saving Tips, you need
5 fisheries
9 functional food factories fed by 9 aquafarms
6 energy drink factories fed by 6 sugar beet plantations and 6 coffee plantations
8 Immunity Drugs Manufacturers fed by 8 Genetic Farming Labs and 4 Coral Breeders
7 Cybernetic Factories fed by 7 spong farms and either 3 electronics recyclers or 4 chip factories (which in turn need 2 copper mines/converters and 2 sand extractors)
5 Lab Outfitters which takes 5 platinum converters and 5 iron smelters (which in turn needs 5 iron mines or 4 iron converters, and 5 rotary excavators or 3 coal mines.)
2 Bionics Factories fed by 2 hydraulic plants, 2 biopolymer factories, 2 platinum converters, 2 oxidation facilities, 4 corn farms, 2 aquafarms, 4 lithium production facilities and 4 fat factories.

question, if I'm using Space-Saving Tips, how much more resources you'd expect me to need?

I think it's just a resizing and rescaling problem @ Praise Lord Gaben. The layout still works though.
