I too did not need the blue gel or the lift but for a first map is was a very good effort.well done.

I actually made a big mistake on one of my many chambers lol. I had the exit door open in a hallway with the red laser field on either side. you had to drop a cube on 2 buttons to deactivate the fields to exit the chamber, but i didn't realize the walls beside the door were portalable. you could just walk to the door and shoot a couple portals and be done with it lol. its fixed though. you should check out some of my chambers and leave me some comments!

There's really no use for either lift or the blue gel in this chamber. well thought out, don't get me wrong, but as it's been stated you can complete this without ever doing a thing.

You can actually beat this without doing any of the puzzles. In the first room, put a portal on the top rung on the cieling and then one on the floor. Jump through to the cieling, and as your coming down, place a portal below yourself. This gives u enough momentum to reach the final door without completeling a single part of the puzzle.

Concur with KennKong, except you don't even need to fling to get into the second funnel - you can just jump.
