Brutal Battles is a battle spacing overhaul that retains vanilla stats and balance while making clashes more chaotic, fierce, and realistic. Watch infantry push and shove to the front as they hack away at the foe, with the addition of improved unit collisions during charges and tightened unit formations. Units such as spearmen now present a bristling solid wall of steel instead of leaving large gaps in their formation, now providing ample deterrent to any brash cavalry charge. Magic becomes more powerful due to the closer combat and packed battle formations, and cavalry charges all but trample smaller creatures within seconds, if they are not stationary.

  • Numerous units (160, Zombies, Goblins etc.) have a much smaller collision box per soldier, allowing them to swarm enemies, but are more susceptible to magic, explosives, and AoE attacks from large units.

  • Lore friendly unit spacing for every faction and unit.

  • Units now have an easier time moving through each other

  • Untouched vanilla unit stats

  • 120° fire arc for most ranged units.

  • Improved charges and collision.

As Brutal Battles only utilizes 3 tables, it has high compatibility with other mods. Where it has issues are with large overhauls, such as Radious and Steel Faith Overhaul. Now while Brutal Battles and big overhauls won't work seamlessly, they won't crash your game and the two mods will roughly work together. Brutal Battles will continue to provide compact unit formations and the overhauls will apply the stat changes and other additions.

To reiterate, Brutal Battles and big overhauls work in a sort of jury-rigged sort of way, as you'll miss any speed, acceleration, deceleration, spacing, and tables of that sort. Overhaul stats will remain, though.

TL;DR: Use Brutal Battles alongside Overhauls if you're okay with losing some speed related tables. Don't use it if you're expecting 100% seamless compatibility even though it won't break the game or balancing much, imo.

Also, do not try to use custom units with Brutal Battles. It will not work.

  • 8/10/2017 - Updated all Cold One units (Dread Knights, Cold Ones, etc.) to have a bit more formation randomisation.

  • 13/10/2017 - Less trained units perform more jump attacks on charges while trained units do less jump attacks on charges. Also fixed Goblins not having the correct radius. They're small like Skaven and Zombies, now.

  • 14/10/2017 - Tweaked unit spacing for organized line infantry to have less formation variation. Lines are a bit straighter.

  • 15/10/2017 - Fixed issue where High Elf spearmen wouldn't all lower their spears.
    Fixed disorganized lines.
Tweaked individual unit spacing for line infantry.
Made line infantry stand a bit closer together.

  • 26/10/2017 - Updated for Mortal Empires.

  • 19/11/2017 - Increased skaven and other disorganized infantry to be more...well, disorganized.

  • 24/01/2018 - Updated for Tomb Kings.

  • 30/01/2018 - Compatibility issues fixed thanks to LuckySpade.

  • 13/02/2018 - Greatly improved feel of charges by allowing soldiers to play hit reaction animations when on the charge or being charged. Fixed weightless feel of soldiers by increasing the amount of speed required to send someone flying (getting hit by a giant's club).

  • 1/4/2018 - Doubled distance for when units entered charging animation. I felt it was too close in vanilla.

  • 14/4/2018 - Since I found out a way to minimize clipping on the charge in the February update, I reverted the spacing in formations for trained line infantry to be a bit more compact, similar to Rome II and Attila. Gives the game a less arcady look, imo.

  • 10/4/2018 - Updated Saurus Warrior, Cold One, and various big lizard formation spacings.

  • 1/6/2018 - Updated for Norsca + Queen & Crone DLC.

  • 16/6/2018 - Updated for compatibility.

  • 03/07/2018 - Tweaked unit spacing a bit. Brought back soldiers being sent flying by cavalry charges. Not doing this made chariots next to useless.

  • 9/11/2018 - Updated for Vampirates, YARRRRR!

  • 25/11/2018 - Fixed undead dismemberment bugs.

  • 29/1/2019 - Updated for Festag Update.

  • 1/2/2019 - Tweaked some settings for more impactful charges, slightly increased occurence of infantry getting knocked down during combat for more interesting battles.

  • 17/4/2019 - Updated for Prophet and the Warlock DLC.

  • 25/4/2019 -------------------------------Formation & Spacing Update------------------------------------------

Also to the guys who are asking about him porting this to Warhammer 3, he said that he is too busy with IRL stuff and will not be able to buy WH3.

It always irked the fuck out of me that the uber professional armies of say the elves, had spearmen forming a wall that you could easily walk between.
