i'd like to start by saying this is by far and away my favorite game i have ever played. It terrorized me as a child and still gives me the heebie jeebies as a college freshman. The balance between humor and depressing, horrifying situations is unparalleled and truly prevents the game from being either a laugh-fest or a depressing play, making it a relaxing yet anxiety-inducing thing of its own design. the main attraction for these games is obviously the horde and how you'll kill it, but the developers stitched in a fantastic story to match its fantastic genocidal surroundings. The variety in the ever-fleeting psychopath battles means each playthrough can be unique if you pick new weapons or different fights and scoops to pursue. Being able to play the same game in an unfathomable number of ways wards off stagnation in the gameplay in a way i really admire. Now, i *usually* am not a fan of games that are "hard" (souls-likes and misc. unnecessarily difficult games), but dead rising does it in a way where it seems achievable with time and work, as apposed to sheer dumb luck. Even when i was a kid, i could tell the strategy was to level up before pursuing the main story, whereas i cant figure out what to do in souls-like games in the present. i own this game on three platforms and i catch myself coming back to it when i feel down or stressed, somehow i can always pick up from where i left off last time as if no time has passed. If anything sums this game up for me, its that. This game is timeless, in its humor, in its horror, in its gameplay, hell, even the soundtrack. To me, dead rising will always be timeless,.
