I have well over 300 hours on this game and 250 of them were spent shooting moose. After making $999,999 off of moose skins, I can tell you much on the subject of moose death. 6 headshots with the 1911 will take one out, 4 headshots with the 44 magnum. 2 shots with most shotguns, but ironically the shotgun sidearms take only 1 shot. Any gun (including the desert eagle) that takes .50 cal is a 1 shot in the head or 2 shots in the body, but if you use penetrator ammo it's 1 shot anywhere. The 45/70 is 2 shots in the head. The .308 carbine is 3 headshots but you have to rack the bolt each time, so not very viable. 1 headshot with the shovel cannon, but if you miss the head, you better switch to another gun before you're turned into meat slush by the half ton north american mammal charging toward you.
