I didn't want to make a review for this game until I completed the whole storyline and WOOO was it worth it.
10/10
The sound and music this game brings to the table is incredible, the story is rich, the characters are likable and unique, and the whole game has an beautiful aesthetic and breathtaking scenes. The more you progress into the journey the more unbelievably stunning the game and story gets. Although the beginning may be quite difficult for new players due to the lack of save points, stay determined and you will be rewarded a lifetime of emotion throughout the rest of the game.

Tips for new players:
  1. Get the game on sale. $60 is a lot, I got it for about $29.99 iirc.
  2. Keyboard + Mouse OR controller for regular combat and maneuverability
  3. Controller for the bullet hell "Hacking" game (I kept a controller on my lap and switched between keeb + mouse and controller often)
  4. Make use of 9S's remote control and hacking, I wasted much time on trying to melee with 9S in the beginning.
  5. Make use of Plug-In Chips, I suggest reading the wiki on how they work. Make shopping lists when going out to buy new plug-in chips.
  6. Take time to enjoy the game, don't just keep pressing the story. There's side quests and objectives you can complete, as well as fishing and reading up on all the juicy intel you've collected. Make sure to explore.
  7. If you die and haven't saved for the past while, don't quit the game. Come back a day or two later and try it again, you won't regret it.
  8. It's not all about grinding, the natural progression of main story allows you to level up enough for each upcoming boss. Make use of the EXP Gain UP when you want to level up quicker. If you're in a pinch for money try fishing and selling items.
  9. Master the combat mechanics. Evading is your best friend.
  10. If it says "can be exchanged for money" - EXCHANGE IT FOR MONEY.
Problems I've encountered with the game:
  • The unforgiving amount of load this game puts on your GPU, however if you have a strong graphics card you should be fine.
  • Image quality on cut scenes is not as crisp as I'd like it to be. This doesn't pose much of a problem unless you REALLY dislike low res cut scenes. They're also framerate capped so yippee.
  • The "Hacking" game is a difficult using a mouse and keyboard. If you find yourself having difficulty with the "Hacking" game, I suggest having a controller that you could switch to when the opportunity arises.
  • The "online/co-op" of this game was disappointing, misled me to thinking NieR: Automata was multiplayer like Portal 2 Co-Op. Instead, when you die you can leave a wordpicker message and other online players can retrieve your body. You can also retrieve other players bodies and gain loot from them, as well as read their messages.
Best things about the game:
  • Soundtrack and OST (it's enchanting)
  • Beautiful setting and vibe
  • Fun combat mechanics (mix of Hack and Slash and Bullet Hell)
  • YOU CAN PAT THE POD
  • Multiple endings, the more endings you get through the better the story gets.
  • Amazing characters (members of thighdeology are salivating lmao)
Conclusion:
Play this game.

There are a lot of good things to this game, but the negatives just outweigh the positives. To start off, Intralism DOES have a great concept and is super fun to play. I love and prefer the mechanics of Intralism compared to osu!mania or other piano tile styled games. However, I just can't recommend Intralism for the following reasons.

- The game is super buggy. Of course a lot of these were fixed in the new version (Rebuild), but even the new game is just not a great experience. Still has a stutter at beginning of maps, among other unpatched bugs.
- Community (especially at the higher ranks) has a lot of open racists and homophobes. Idk what I expected from a rhythm game community but damn.
- UI is pretty bad.
- Lack of regular new official maps. Also it feels like there's only one guy getting their levels on the official page lol, but it's not like they're bad maps.
- Editor doesn't support video :( Kinda funny seeing frame-by-frame "videos" on levels.
- Slow servers but that's probably because it's hosted in Russia(?).
- Lastly, it's just a dead game... Top 100 has players who haven't played in years and the announcements are seemingly spontaneous.

Just go play osu!mania or Quaver and buy a bag of chips with the money you save.
