The absolute nerve of Bungie to sell a DLC for full price after they removed so much of its content is astounding.

Cryptark is an underrated little game. The gameplay itself is a fun 2D shooter where you can utilize multiple different mechanics depending on your loadout and chosen suit. Many of the weapons are satisfying to use, though there were some disappointments. Personally I never found the stealth mechanics appealing, so I generally stuck to running and gunning.

Two of the three main modes (campaign and rogue) were enjoyable and I replayed them quite a few times, but the excavation mode was very underwhelming. While it was a satisfying conclusion to the game, having it be only one level which takes just a few minutes to complete and without introducing much to the gameplay made it feel like less of a gamemode and more of an epilogue.

The game is certainly replayable to an extent. It’s necessary to play through the campaign and rogue modes multiple times to get all of the artifacts and their corresponding achievements. Being able to use the artifacts to unlock new suits to change up the gameplay also allows the game to not feel overly repetitive. However, once you get all of the artifacts, there really isn’t much incentive to keep playing.

The art style is simple but fitting for the game, and the sound design is also very well done. The voice acting is very competent and even includes performances from known terrorist Joshua Tomar and professional clown Jeremy Elbertson.

Overall I very much enjoyed Cryptark. I got it when it had been listed for free at some point, and the base price tag of $15 seems a bit high considering the length of the main content. The game is pretty short, taking me roughly six hours to 100% the game at a moderate pace. $10 seems more suitable, though it is currently on sale for $4. The game could really just use more content.

Great little game to play for a few hours, but definitely needs a lot more content. Lots of potential.
