I remember many years ago I used to play BTD5 on my iPad, and I thought it was one of the best games ever.

Fast forward some years, and I picked up BTD6 at the start of high school and started casually playing it in my classes. 3 years later, with a High school diploma, 600+ hours and grades I can confidently say was somewhat ruined by BTD6, I think its about time I make a review about this game.

When I first bought BTD6 it resembled BTD5 in many ways. The concept was the same, and apart from 3 instead of 2 upgrade paths and better graphics, it was pretty much the same. But over the course of a few years BTD6 has turned into a almost new game, which is all credited to all the new stuff which is added. New monkeys, daily challenges, boss events, odysseys and even our own challenge editor where we can create our own challenges is just some of the new things added to BTD6. Ninja Kiwi (NK) has a done a superb job by keeping the game fresh, and always have something new for us to enjoy.

While on the topic of NK, I must also give them credit as developers. A developer which actually cares about the game, listens to feedback and even hosts map creation contests is a type of game developer everyone should strive to be, and they are definietly a reason as to why I put so many hours into the game. Sure they've at times done some questionable things, but these are things which often is fixed or changed.

But why on earth have I've put 600 hours into a tower defense game? Why don't I get tired of playing the same maps on different difficulties and modes? To answer this you really have to answer the question as to why BTD6 is so good. And the answer is that no run is ever the same.

For me the charm about BTD6 is that it makes you play in your exact way. There is not a right answer as to how or what you should play. If you wanna play and finish all the modes on the different maps, go ahead. If you wanna try to get to the highest possible round, go ahead. Perhaps you only want to play boss challenges? Go ahead. BTD6 never tries to tell you what to do, and you are free to do whatever you like in whatever way you like. It's your choice, and you play it as you like. You can do a run in which you sit back and relax as a sniper cleans up all the bloons, or you can do the most advanced micro-management of a helicopter to save as much money as possible. You might watch a guide on youtube how to do certain maps on C.H.I.M.P.S (the hardest difficulty) but I can guarantee you that there is a 1000 other ways to do it. And its much more fun to find your own way which works. Nothing beats the feeling when you complete something hard doing it your way, without help from someone else. You can go through 90% of this game without needing a guide, and the last 10% is the absolute hardest parts about the game. Of course the game can feel grindy when playing the same map over and over, but then again, there is always something different to do.

I've never used real money on this game apart from buying it, and I've will never have too. The premium currency (monkey money) in the game is gained by even doing maps on the easiest modes, so you wil eventually get to a point where you have as much monkey money that you dont even get to spend it all.

BTD6 is truly an amazing game, which gives you endless hours of fun. While I dont play it as much anymore as I used to do, I can confidently recommend this game to everyone. And seeing it 75% off during summer sale I think you would have to be insane not to buy it. It funny how a game which such a simple concept; monkeys fighting balloons, can be such a fun experience.
