This game is HARD. You get thrown into it with no tutorial, no explanation and no help. Not gonna lie - I ended up looking a lot of things up at the beginning because I don't deal with these types of games very well. However, you learn quickly and it gets to the point where you don't care why you're in this other world, why there are shadow creatures trying to kill you, etc. You just have to survive.

There's a lot of item collection and the opportunity to build bigger and better defenses, offenses, etc. There's no real right or wrong way to play this game. You will probably die a lot but there is tons of replayability.

I would recommend To the Moon to anyone who is in the mood for an amazing story, but not necessarily an immersive rpg experience. There is actual little gameplay involved - and it's arguably not even necessary for the story. Sometimes I felt like it actually took away from the experience.

You play as two doctors/technicians from a company that tries to fulfill your dying wish. The game centers around John and River's relationship and life together, starting at the end and ending at the beginning (sounds confusing, right?). You go backward through John's memories, most of which include River, to see how to send him to the moon. I forget if this is ever explicitly stated but River seems to be on the autism spectrum and John never really tries to understand or "deal" with her disorder. I personally didn't cry or have any extreme emotional attachment to this story but I can see how some people may. At times, it was a little boring, but it was worth an afternoon to experience this bittersweet story of unconditional and timeless love.

It's been a few days after I finished Fran Bow and I'm still thinking about this game - this story will stick with you and keep you wondering long after you've put it down. I played this game in a marathon play through. It took me about 9 hours to complete and I did end up having to look at a walkthrough twice for answers on what to do next.

Fran Bow begins in a mental asylum, but Fran's adventures go far beyond that. The whole time you may be thinking "is it all in her head, or is this really happening?". The story is completely enthralling and the gameplay stands up to it. It is a fairly simple point and click adventure horror game but the story and visuals are beautiful (although at times, extremely gruesome and disturbing).

I highly recommend this game for fans of the horror adventure genre and anyone who is interested in the complexities of mental illness.
