Bought the game when it was on sale with the VC1 + VC4 Complete Package.

I finished VC1 first then played VC4. Coming from VC1, I found the story to be okay, not bad but also not that great. The gameplay and combat is probably my favorite out of this game. It fixed some issues I had from the gameplay in VC1 and they added some nice QoL improvements. For my first time trying out the VC franchise, i enjoyed the experience (Heck, i even got 100% on VC4 Achievements)

As for the price, i recommend to buy it on sale with the VC1 + VC4 Complete Package. Although I like the game, i think the price for VC4 is way too high for me. The discount price is usually quite high so if you're interested just wait for the sale and buy that one.

Mass corpse explosion and deploy mass traps carried me through so many battles. I remember one shotting the whole advocate gang in bloodmoon island by teleporting a bunch of corpses and baiting them to attack a party member that is standing on the pile of corpses.
