FortressCraft Evolved is a great game that gets nowhere near as much recognition as it should. Though often compared to other things like Minecraft, FC:E is far removed from the style Minecraft presents and should never be considered in the same vein.

You're on an alien planet, for a start, crashlanded after a great big asteroid smashed into the station you were about to dock in. So, where to begin? Well, you start with a Central Power Hub, some simple machines, a fantastically powerful Build Gun (which is upgradeable) with which you can mow down mountains or build massive plateaus with little effort, and you have to find yourself some resources.
With the handy Scanner, you must scan the world around you to be able to research new machines, ping for ores, and plunge the dark depths of the grandest caverns you have ever seen to discover new resources further down, beneath the surface.
Then comes the automation part of the game, which is arguably the largest part and a great logistical challenge. You'll have to start with simple automation: getting Copper and Tin to your smelter. A few conveyors, a storage hopper or four, and before long you have bars with which to build new items, blocks and machines. Next comes Iron, which is deeper down in the ground. Then Lithium, though this ore is deep enough to attract the voracious Mynocks to your conveyors, which fuel a dark threat hidden in the caverns if they eat stuff off your conveyors. So, after having placed some turrets and provided enough power, you have Lithium safely automated.

So, now with plenty of bars to spend on base expansion, what does an accomplished crash survivor like yourself have left to conquer? Worry not, for there are still several hurdles to overcome. Enemies will come to find your base, attracted by the increased energy your base produces as you expand. Vast deadly caverns lying below those precious Lithium veins provide new challenges and environmental dangers. Hiveminds stalk your base, lying in wait for that one block of conveyor not covered in turret fire to plant a Mynock on it.
As your base grows, so do the dangers, so there is never a dull moment.

That's all I will say, since you really should experience the game for yourself. I have more than 900 hours in this game, and I have enjoyed every one of them. There's nothing quite like putting all your hard work to use in calling a bombardment from orbit to exterminate your enemies. For the price, this game is absolutely worth it!
