I play Quake. I always play Quake. Other people play other games. I play Quake. I get frustrated by the game, but still play Quake. Nobody really plays Quake anymore, but I still play. I am now the caretaker for the crypt. It is my duty in life to play Quake. Some people are carpenters, some musicians, I play Quake.

I have watched people move on to other games. I have watched as people play source ports. But I don't use such heinous things. I use DOSBox and upgrade my hardware constantly to more efficiently play Quake. One day I will make it so the game doesn't lag in an 800x600 window. Until then I will play in 320x200 like a normal person. At least if that normal person played Quake in DOSBox.

I am the guardian. I am the Quake lover. Other games will come and go, but Quake will remain eternal as long as I live, for I shall continue its flame. Sure, people may no longer exist to play alongside, but I disabled my ipx connection anyway. Sure, I could try to play newer games like Quake 2, but then I would have played a new game and thus destroyed the potential for what that game could contain. I know what Quake contains. I like Quake.

Other people no longer seem to like Quake. That is fine. I am used to being alone and hated. I wish people didn't hate my love, but they are perhaps jealous and feel I should be with a roastie. But roasties don't give me totality from acquiring runes. Roasties don't feature juxtaposition between medieval Lovecraft hellholes and dystopian futures. You may have sex, but I got discharges with my thunderbolt.

I play Quake. I always play Quake. If I am not playing Quake, I am not me and you should be concerned.

I grew up playing DOOM and never got the chance to play Quake until a couple of years ago and I must say if I have to choose between this two games I'll choose Quake.
Why? You may ask, well let me tell you.

-Gameplay is fast and consistent, you never have to worry about RNG to decide if your shots are gonna kill an enemy in 2 or 5 hits.

-The enemies are unique both in design and behavior which makes them pretty recognizable and distinct from each other, the Shambler being one of my favourites.

-The atmosphere, my favourite aspect of this game, dark and foreboding gothic castles mixed with Lovecraftian cosmic horror and dark fantasy makes for a pretty unique setting I never seen before, without mention the amazing soundtrack composed by NIN.

All of this fits together pretty well and is what set Quake apart from other FPS.
