Being limited to a few weapons means you have to think strategically about your loadout before a fight and makes PVP far more competitive and fun. It’s more of a test of skill. The game was not intended to be played the way youtubers like chasethebro play. I despise his playstyle. I don’t want to learn how to input 4-5 moves in 0.1 seconds. That’s not even how it’s meant to be played.
Not to mention, the try hards in the arena who hardswap to regen armour/shields/talismans and run away to gain health back when they’re at 5-10% health so you spend 2 minutes chasing tjemnwhich is fustrating and then point down after wasting your time. I despise these trash players.

Whether it’s an intended mechanic or not is irrelevant. Fromsoft’s games have amazing combat mechanics and hardswapping cheapens the combat greatly.
Examples of how it cheapens combat. Your ash of war should be your trump card. Once you reveal it to your opponent it’s far less likely to land the next consecutive times.
Part of a duel is fighting carefully, being weary of whatever ash of war your opponent could have equipped.
However hardswapping gives you access to hundreds of ash’s of war which resort to your opponents just spamming different ashes of war once he’s revealed his trump card.
It changes PVP from a strategic battle to a spamfest. Different weapons have their strengths and weaknesses. However that’s rendered meaningless due to hardswapping. Oh your build matches up badly against this particular person? No worries switch out instantly into a new build.
