TL;DR This is genuinely one of the best tactical card games I've played. It starts a bit slow but once you get a few missions in it's great. Even without a cover or grid system it's surprisingly complex, especially on harder difficulties. Speaking of, as you progress through the game you can unlock additional difficulty settings which is a nice way to stay engaged. Outside of combat, you can explore the abbey – the base of operations, and uncover its mysteries or hangout with your fellow heroes to get combat bonuses. All in all, I loved it and would definitely recommend for anyone that likes marvel, xcom, and/or card-builders. A 9/10 for marvel and tactical card-builder lovers, 7.5/10 for everyone else.

The Pros:
- Great deck-building system.
Allows for deck editing, upgrading cards and eventually mods for said upgraded cards. Cards are initially unlocked through a variety of lootbox-like systems, all obtained through side and main missions. NO micro-transactions lol. Legendary-ranked cards are unlocked once you reach max friendship with a hero. Which leads into my next point..
- The Friendship System.
When not off stopping the end of the world, you can interact with the heroes you've unlocked so far in the campaign. Hangout with them and give them gifts to hear their backstories and gain combat bonuses. My only gripe is that there's some dialogue later in the story to suggest a romantic relationship with a hero but it's not possible with anyone. It would've been pretty cool to have some romance options.
- The Abbey.
To start, the abbey is your base of operations in the story.
The Location: It is a sizable map with many mysteries hidden within that can be unlocked to your own liking. It is completely optional. However, as you explore the abbey, you unlock different hangout spots that you can take heroes to, increasing your friendship level with them in the process. You can also find a plethora of resources for item crafting while exploring.
Clubs: As you progress through the story the heroes you unlock will invite you to abbey club meetings – there are a total of three you can experience with 5 meetings each all scattered throughout the game. There is the EMO KIDS (occult) club, the book club, and the (auto) shop. I won’t go into detail on them, but I will say that they are surprisingly refreshing. The book club in particular is an amazing juxtaposition to the main story and stopping an armageddon. You quite literally just read books and talk about them with a handful of heroes. It sounds simple but the dialogue and hero interactions are some of the best the clubs have to offer.
- The Voice Acting (and writing).
As other reviews have stated, the majority of the cast have voiced these characters for years and they’re all amazing. While the dialogue may not be 100% all the time, it’s still great as well. You can really get a good feel for the nuances of everyone’s personality and the way the heroes interact with each other are all A+. Be prepared for A LOT of dialogue, though. I don’t feel as though the story deserves its own pro, but its nonetheless good, but nothing that breaks the mold. It surprisingly has depth and darkness to it which I liked, I just wish the heroes would’ve expressed a little more despair for the end of the world happening before their eyes.

The Cons:
- QoL detriments
To start, there is no minimap when exploring the abbey. This can be annoying as most of the paths look similar and you’ll find yourself pressing M many times just to reorient yourself. The only thing you may occasionally have to guide you is a waypoint for abbey missions, but even then it can be difficult to find your way.
Second, there is no true pausing in the game. You cannot access the menu during cutscenes and conversations will still continue while in the menu. This can be annoying if you need to afk as conversations can still proc while paused if you’re near any npcs in the abbey.
Lastly, performance. While I didn’t notice as many performance issues as some reviews have mentioned, there were some in the start menu and during missions with many enemies or particles such as the final mission. I’m on max settings with an rtx 3060 so it was a little surprising.
- Microtransactions and Denuvo
self explanatory lol

A charming choice game reminiscent of life is strange - mainly the third installment. You can tell time was taken in every aspect; the locations are beautiful and the story was well told. I like how the fact Tyler is transgender wasn't the main part of the story, but i will say I wish Alyson had more screen time and background.

All in all, 8/10 :)
