Early Access Review
This game is by the very definition Early Access.

A lot of cool concepts but the new player experience needs to be polished up very well before it comes out of Early Access!

There is no separate tutorial level to understand the game. You are thrown into the game.

The A.I. is very dodgy in a sense that it hilariously reminds me of the A.I. issues in the Total War: Three Kingdoms. Where one A.I. ruler would just dominate the map very to little no warning.

Instead of having very little to nothing supplies. You should have a starting village at least; and then build around it. Have enough supplies for a militia to protect your goods, and a decent sizable army to at least win some battles - not all. But some battles.

The learning curve is very steep here. I sincerely don't recommend this game until the game makes it more balance and more fair and tolerable to at least win one battle or scenario

This game was definitely labeled poorly. You see it's not a survival game. But rather a roguelite game.

You don't "survive" in the Olympic Exclusion Zone. But rather go through these high-risk-high-reward ventures in order to get what you need in order to get yourself out of said zone. With that said is it enjoyable at least as a rogue-lite game? Hell no. Far from it.

1) The controls are awful. Why on gods green earth are we still doing holding button prompts in 2024!?!

2) The "Challenge" of said game is wiped completely when you can legitimately go into the gameplay options and turn off all the difficulty bits and bops that make it.. you know a rogue-lite game and turn it into a casual story driven driving game where you just go from point A to point B with very minimum hindrance except maybe your driving skills and the enemies of the zone (And speaking of)

3) The enemies are not fun. There are abilities to protect you. But they are there to just annoy you. It's really the environment that's your true enemy (radiation spots, anomaly encounters, etc.) The enemies like the abductors are there to just troll you and annoy you.

4) The car itself is cool as you can customize it. However if you turn the game from a rogue-lite experience to a casual driving sim (As mentioned in point 2) Most of these abilities are pointless and upgrades will be useless.

5) The story itself at first had a solid idea: You getting sucked into a pocket dimension that warps between reality and the unexplained but in reality it's not that deep. Even though the game tries to make it as deep as it thinks it is.

6) The save system is terrible. The only way you can truly save is if you enter and exit the zone areas (And what I mean by that is. If you need to get to another area you'll have to pass through a smaller area first) yup. That kind of save.

7) The controls aren't explained or rather.. a lot isn't explained. You have to refer to the log book and Holy Crap the log book makes Destiny's Grimoire lore thingy look like Shakespeare (i'm seriously. You can't even 'mark all read' in Pacific Drive)

For a $30 dollar Rogue-lite game that tries to be a "crafting game", a "driving game" and a rogue-lite it fails spectacularly at all three. Skip this one and save your money.

Wow how far we've come with the Assassin's Creed franchise and BOY! this game aged rather poorly

First off the notice below: "Notice: Requires a dual core processor or better. Please check system requirements before purchasing." is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The game can easily run on modern hardware; however, because of the age of the game and whatever Ubisoft did to Assassin's Creed 1 or lack thereof the game will either crash, lag , or freeze on you. Maybe even all three!

Run compatibility? Nope. Still crashing
It's a you problem! Nope, multiple people on multiple various hardware specs are having issues. So it's not a "you" problem

You want to know how to fix it? Here's how:
You either can do one of the following if not all three

1) Run the game offline. No little Timmy and Susie, not Steam offline. INTERNET offline

2) Dabbling in the hosts file via your drivers folder via your windows file by inputing random numbers. Apparently the game is trying to connect to Ubisoft? what? I don't

3) You do step 2. But also run the Directx installer program within the game file and instead of running through ANY of the actual launchers. You have to run a program called testapp, exe and pray that it works

I ♥♥♥♥. you. not. I ♥♥♥♥. YOU NOT.

You might be thinking: "Well okay that's fine" no it isn't. This is all trial and error tests because either all three won't work or all three will work but you'll have less crashes or no crashes depending upon whether or not the game is having a good day

Okay. Once you get through the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of trying to fix the game (GOG version also is having this same issue. And testapp.exe won't count for playtime)

How is the game? It's dated as hell. Let me break it down in the

1) Getting to the assassination mission isn't like in the sequels. it has a very obvious repetitive gameplay loop that will make you lose your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ever loving mind. It's all predetermined btw so no, every playthrough is the same, every activity is the same. That goes double for the actual assassination mission; you get a starter cutscene, chase target to proper moment, kill target, listen to targets final words, and then head back to your bureau hideout in whatever city you are in. If you suck as an assassin then you have to chase your target down to a watchtower fight the guards, fight the target and then do the same stuff again.

2) Traversing in this game is crime against humanity. Oh my god, the climbing is all fixed locations, there's no free roam climbing here unlike in the more modern day AC titles. It not only sticks out like a sore thumb, but sometimes you look at what your climbing and go: "Wait a minute why not do this Ubisoft?" and make the climbing terrain easier or more intuitive.

I could also say the graphics as well. But well, it's to be expected from a late 2000s game. The only big positive is the voice acting on the characters involved within the story, and the writing of story (to a fault). You really just want to listen to all the conversations all day between Desmond and Vidic or Altair and his master.

The balls on Ubisoft to charge $19.99 is also a crime. It should be $10 with a proper notice warning that reads: "Game is outdated on modern hardware please advise that community fixes are trial & error" or something close to that.

Thumbs downing this game for 4 reasons

1) Denuvo

2) It's laughably sad that they are considering adding a simple thing like having a 'new game' in the main menu... like why? The only way you can delete your save is going through your userdata folder within your steam folder

3) Performance and optimization issues.

4) Regardless of whether or not the DLC can be earned in game (which it can; if you grind). The simple fact that Capcom hid the DLC practices and only activated it upon AFTER reviews went live is a real scummy move and it's fascinating that some gamers are tolerating it as "Oh it's just Capcom. They did it to Monster Hunter World, and look at what the developers did with Helldivers 2, no one batted an eye at either!" umm did you all forget that this is a $70 title!?!

On the note of Helldivers 2. THEIR micros went live on day one and can be earned in game straight from the developers mouth. Did Capcom tell reviewers about the planned MTX? nooooo. See the difference between honesty and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from a developer & publisher?

Also on the note of MHW; the game design and nature was going to have some form of cosmetic DLC so there was no escaping that.

If you detach yourself from the tone setting that was set from the previous two and just look at as a "Die Hard" experience then this game is right up your alley! The late James McCaffrey gives his ultimate swan song performance as Max Payne in this insane thrill ride from start to finish

The bullet time is well done, destructible environments, the way the npcs and max react to every situation during a shootout. It's just chefs kiss; although I will say that final sequence was unnecessarily insane lol you don't need to do all of that for the sake showing off the potential and firepower of the RAGE engine that was going to be used for GTA V; in fact a lot of sequences were like: "Okay but can GTA V do that?" lol, maybe GTA 6 but not V come on now.

Whether it be on sale or full price. I sincerely recommend this game either way. Thank you James McCaffrey for all the memories. Max Payne dearest of all my friends you are now a bit closer to heaven <3

Updated review

There is absolutely no excuse for two things

1) The price tag and that GB space

2) The amount of technical issues that the multiplayer is facing. The lack of inverted controls, no cross play/platform

It literally plays the same.

Has the additional content (two new heroes, new locations, hero assault expanded as it is all advertise)

Save your money. Buy something else

Early Access Review
The intuitive approach that the developers took for this game is incredible.

Traversing, combat, skills, and easy to understand crafting is the high points.

The base building is very -- it's something. I would say both in a positive & negative way. The positive - you don't have to worry about building block after block. Easy accessibility, Negative way, because there is no absolute way to know if you are doing your base building right without a free cam. The camera is tied to your character movements at all times especially during base building. So if you are looking for precise accurate building; you won't find it here in this game

Also the fact that Enshrouded has three separate online modes when you can just have two "Host" and "Join" is really odd. Yeah the "private" lobby is actually the single player lobby but for some reason they call it a "private lobby" lol really interesting choice there.

And of course your standard occasionally bugs and glitches that come with every early access game. Be aware that for my personal experience apparently the base building CAN glitch out meaning you won't be able to properly delete your buildings, and no backing out of the game does not fix this; the only fix for me is to build stuff over it and then promptly delete the newer build and it will hilarious delete the older build lmao

For $30 dollars its a lot of fun, despite the odd design choices and the infuriating base building system (while many have said it's fine) No it isn't really as while it is easy accessibility without you grinding for the material. The lack of a proper base cam building or some form of free cam option will make your base building experience... hell. That goes double for any potential glitches that will wreck your experience while base building.

I'm just BARELY recommending this.

Sony literally had the golden goose of live service games and what they do? They literally embodied the meme: "They got us at the first half" only instead of laughing about it, you got pitchforks and knifes coming at ya!

And if you don't get why people are upset: PSN is only available in 69 countries, working-around this will result in a ban because your ass belongs to Sony once you create a PSN account. the Sony infrastructure has been breached multiple times and millions of personal data was exposed.

If you think this is no big deal. Think again

I really wish I didn't have to give it a negative review.

However, after carefully considering everything that I have encountered in the first game... yeah.

This review is for the first game. But pretty much if it's like this in the second and third you can probably draw up instant conclusions:

So let me say this for the public record: Aspyr & Crystal Dynamics have done a fantastic job at recreating the game with stunning modern visuals. Holy crap it's amazing.

When it comes to the GAMEPLAY portion however that's when you see the split

First off let's talk about the controls. Tank controls? It is as faithful as it is on launch day back in 1996. However, what the game heavily promotes is not just the updated visuals, health bars for bosses, photo mode, but also MODERN controls. Meaning it will play like a platform title from the PS2 days.

Here's the problem: The game was never ever designed with modern controls in mind due to the grid system and heavy reliance on Lara's acrobatic abilities. Hell, the tutorial talks about the tank controls, and not the modern controls. That's a "For you to find out" which is silly. No lock on system that let's you tap a button to auto lock, and oh my god the camera. THE CAMERA

On tank controls. The camera is as friendly as it was back in 1996. On modern? The camera is basically Ivan Drago out to murder you and make you sick or annoyed or both! It does not like tight corridors, tight corners, tight anything it will disown you, your ancestors, and your sanity.

Also for the sheer fact that there are a bunch of guides and videos on the topic. You know the developers just slapdash this into reality and said: "Okay done" noooo. You need to QA this ♥♥♥♥. You need to make the controls more intuitive rather than frustrating at times.

Also finally the save system. For whatever reason. The game does not introduce the save crystals on the FIRST go around. Yup, the classic save system is behind NG+. So what about it? well, remember when I said it's a faithful visual upgrade? Try remembering where you need to go after a while. Or better yet, try remembering to save at the right time.

There is no quick save system. Period. No, I don't want to hear F5 & F9. That's a QUICKER ACCESS. Not a "Quicksaving..." on the top right or left corner like a Bethesda game or any game that has a quicksaving system. That ain't it. Because what was special about the save crystals is how not only does it balance your logical thinking of: "Do I need to save here specifically or can I risk it and see what happens" because after you use the crystals it disappears. That is a way better save system because at least you know it's constantly there. If they would've just add a better quicksave system then this wouldn't be such a sore topic (along with the camera and modern controls)

As i said. It's a faithful remaster down to the last pixel. But my god, they really and i mean REALLY screwed up with catering to the modern gaming audience because... yikes.

First time player of Onimusha: Warlords and I must say.... I love it.

Sure there are some hindrances and annoyances like the save system, the health item procurement, etc. But the visuals? enemy design? music? Resident Evil meets demons and samurais? Amazing. Epic.

And yeah sure the game can be beaten relatively easily since it is a straight forwardness of: Save princess from evil demons. boom done.

And I do agree... where are the sequels? Because those games need the same treatment as this game have gotten because the original? My god the tank controls on the original vs analog on this remastered? Night and day. You'll have a better time with this version than the tank control version of the original.
