A simple but incredibly addicting game. The core gameplay loop is go fishing, upgrade your setup, and fish some more. All the while you’ll have tasks to complete along the way guiding you towards the end. The art and music is perfect for this kind of game. There’s a serenity and longing bathing the whole game and while it sells itself on its horror elements, it’s those quiet moments that stand out the most to me. Even without the eldritch horror aspects it would make for an incredible fishing sim. If you are into that kind of game then it’s a 100% buy. Easiest decision you could make.

I only have a few minor complaints. The biggest one is that I wish it was a little harder (perhaps a difficulty setting so people can enjoy it as a relaxing fishing game too) so the horror has more emphasis later in the run. I’d also prefer if there was a build up to the fish becoming abominations as you become increasingly more corrupt. You can get a lot of the mutant variants early on and it leaves little reason to return to already explored islands. My final complaint (more of a recommendation) is to make things increasingly more dangerous as you find more trinkets and as you deplete the pools. The theme of the ocean trying to fight back is a cool one and should be explored more.

Besides those minor complaints/suggestions, I’ve had a blast and it leaves me wanting more (in a good way). The best praise I can think of giving a game is that I can’t wait for the sequel already. Highly recommend buying the game. One of the best indie titles in a while. A sequel building on the core mechanics would be like TOTK following BOTW.

Early Access Review
Great game with lots of replayability. It distills city building to the best component: city building. The roguelite features mesh surprisingly well. Can't wait to see where the game goes from here.

Great game and a great roguelike. Can't wait to see what else is added since the game is barely in early access but lots of fun.

It is missing some of the polish that a game like Slay the Spire has and sometimes the computer teammates make it difficult to win. For example, one of the enemies benefits from cards being exhausted but the NPC teammates still exhaust a lot of cards anyway. However, it can be difficult to make intelligent NPC teammates, and the game is beatable despite them so it's not a big deal. Plus what makes the game especially fun is the co-op aspect which is lacking in a game like Slay the Spire. For this reason alone I'd recommend the game. The game also manages to have a surprising amount of depth without feeling like it's too easy or too hard.

If you're on the fence about the game and plan to play it single player, then it's probably best to hold off until the game comes out in full and some of the issues are ironed out. If you like the gameplay and have friend(s) (one is fine) then I'd say it's an easy buy at its current price of $18. If you plan to play it without a full team of people then make sure to give a human the drummer role and one the bass role. The guitar and keyboards seem less vital to the team composition.

Just remember that like any other roguelike, it's a difficult game and you won't win the first few attempts. But getting a victory is really satisfying because the boss is difficult and your team will be hitting +100 score every turn to survive.

Incredible game. Lots of detail and freedom but not overwhelming at all. Some quality of life adjustments would make the game perfect but for how small the dev team is, it's quite the triumph.

I know that the devs don't plan on making too many more updates in the future, but having more freedom with the camera would really be the only major thing I'd change.

I'd highly recommend buying the game since it's fun, and to support the dev team so they can continue working on this and future games which I'm sure will be just as fun.

Good game, but feels incomplete like Civ 5 without DLC. Buy during a sale.

An incredibly fun game with a lot of playability if you're playing co-op with someone. The PVP is pretty much non existent, sadly, but there's a lot of quests and items to collect in the PVE side of things. I have played tons of hours with my girlfriend, and we've had tons of fun.

It's not a very hardcore game with a steep learning curve. It's very relaxed, and above all else, it's fun. Hopefully with future updates, there will be more character classes added. But besides that it's really good in its current state.

Definitely worth the money as long as you play with a friend or loved one. It's a very casual game. Nothing competitive about it.
