This is the best Halo game and only good one aside from ODST. Just don't play with Anniversary graphics.
Also, highly recommended on Legendary, as the only game where Legendary is balanced appropriately. First half on Legendary is near perfect, second half sadly works better on Heroic for a first time playthrough.

Good but clunky and sometimes frustrating.
Has problems with visual clarity, level design can sometimes be confusing, map can sometimes be useless, and most importantly, you don't have as much control over your robot as you probably should given many of the combat encounters. All these issues combined makes for a game which while good, is pretty flawed.
Also, the main way to gain control is to use the forward thrusters. However, there is a heat system that forces you to control it. The issue is that I don't think the heat system adds much to the game other than forcing the player to engage with its clunkiness rather than the game at its best.
That said I still recommend it. It's quite fun and has a good visual style, but its clunky movement and lack of visual clarity are worth keeping in mind before playing.
I should clarify that the movement would be good if the enemies and levels were better built for it.

Doesn't live up to the quality set by previous Conflict games

One of the best damn third-person shooters with a smart relationship system that rewards the player for stylish, aggressive play with relationship progress.
This is a shooter that rewards you with money, upgrades and character relationship progress for fast, aggressive play; Dismembering enemies, killing them in quick succession and in a short timespan, will give you all the rewards.
Not many third-person shooters, let alone games, do this, and more should.

Also combat is good.

An excellent expansion that deserves far more love than it has received.

Fantastic as a dungeon-crawler, fantastic as an ARPG, fantastic as a sandbox-driven immersive sim, phenomenal as a roguelike.
IMHO, one of the greatest examples of an 'immersive sim' there could be; Awesome, highly open-ended dungeon-crawling filled with great RPG systems, consistent and believable simulations and lots of unscripted, chaotic emergent gameplay. Sometimes reminiscent of the emergent gameplay and systems from something like Arx Fatalis, System Shock 2 or Ultima Underworld. Highly recommended.

Underrated. I don't see why people hate it so much. There's a lot of awful levels but there's some levels which are quite lovely.

Simply put, the finest tactical shooter ever made.
