Ashes of the Singularity is a heavily macro oriented RTS; i would argue even more so than games such as supreme commander or TA. i have not played the campaign but have played around 30 hours of the multiplayer and the community is alive and well(it takes about 8 min max to find game), the gameplay is very much about outbuilding your opponent and also maintaining a good variety of unit types, the game is full of rock paper scissor hard counters so spamming the same unit is not really an option against a good opponent, resources are distributed accross the entire map and their is a victory condition for map control so it is a game that encourages early aggression rather than turtling making for busy chaotic games right from the 3-4 min mark in smaller maps. One major criticism i have as an sc2 player is if one does need to micro some units take your orders more as suggestions than intructions moving units around is fine fine but getting them to focus down a large unit or building is much more taxing as they seem to reaggro constantly. This aside however i would reccomend for anyone who is looking for a more thoughtful but still fast paced rts experience.
