Game still runs like garbage even after 2 performance patches and frequent updates, initially pre-ordered it. It is ridiculous for a game to be released at this price considering how unpolished and inconsistent the performance has been,

See, this game is fantastic, don't get me wrong. But Denuvo almost finds a way to enter a game and completely destroy it. There are many reasons as to why this has a negative impact on Replicant Ver. 1.22. Not only, just like Nier Automata, is this game poorly optimized, but it requires an internet connection to play. The problem this can have is

1. Their servers might be temporarily shut, locking you from the game
2. If Denuvo happens to go bust for some reason, the game will no longer be playable
3. It runs on a VM to prevent piracy and installs a bunch of irrelevant hidden anti-cheat software, which could further explain the bad optimization Nier typically has alongside possible difficulties modding. It also uses up much more of your computers hardware capacity than required. What makes this a truly conflicting is that Nier Replicant is a Single-Player title.

As for the game itself, it's great. But it's trapped behind a wall, I recommend before purchasing any Square Enix game as of present, to do some further snooping to see if Denuvo has been implemented into said title. It's sad to see companies go to this extent that they would screw us all over to prevent a small amount of pirates. Once Denuvo shuts down, all games attached to/using it it will become unworkable. If Square Enix continue to use Denuvo for their future titles, I unfortunately will no longer be supporting them.

$60 to temporarily own a game. Not trying to detour people from purchasing, but to understand what they're really paying for.
