This game never had steam integrated multiplayer support, you had to use hamachi in order to play with friends. It was worth doing, though, as the multiplayer was fun and (mostly) worked. However, the developer published one last update before completely abandoning the game in favor of a new project (which he has also abandoned since), and it's this update that completely broke the multiplayer and is the reason I do not think this game is worth you purchasing. If you start a playthrough with a friend, even if you make it to the last stage and beat the final boss, your game will break and you will get no credit for finishing - most of the replayability of this title comes from the unlockable races/hats/companions, and due to this bug you will receive none of these in multiplayer mode. Singleplayer has some bugs but still mostly works, and I come back to it every now and again, but, whether Sean (the dev) broke his game intentionally or not, it has been years and he seems content to leave it abandoned. Don't spend money on this.

unplayable on launch for pc if you have invisible enemies glitch, until that is fixed this is just a very cinematic screensaver

Sprays are still disabled, free-to-play accounts are routinely limited in how they can interact with other players, the once lovely and simple lobby system has been replaced by a clunky attempt at modernization, and hacking bots infest at least half of the servers and have been doing so for nearly a year without valve fixing this complete epidemic (to the point where the hackers are charging extortion for bot immunity). But despite the glacial updates and the clear signals from valve that they don't give a single ♥♥♥♥, this game remains a cartoonish and violent team-based fps, with an incredibly unique community. One can only hope that the v company remembers to take care of this property before it gets too late.
