The game's pacing is way too slow. Most of my time is spent waiting on the "Clear" and "Star Rating" screens.

Let me preface this with some absolutely critical info.
  • I pre-ordered this game with all the DLC content.
  • I've 100% completed every Mario couch multiplayer platformer, every Kirby couch multiplayer platformer, both Rayman Legends and Rayman Origins, Donkey Country Returns and TP, A Hat in Time both couch and online, and others.
  • Most of those games I've replayed with friends or by myself. I know the flaws and the strengths of each and every one of those titles. Platformers are my bread and butter and couch multiplayer games is something I plan with my family every month.
  • I'm massive Sonic fan. I go out my way to play multiplayer mods of Sonic Adventure and Sonic fan games. I do local Project 06 verses with friends on discord. I'm that invested.

This game is one of the most miserable multiplayer Sonic experiences I've ever had. And I 100% Sonic Forces. Every conceivable aspect of this game is broken in some inconceivable way. Worst, it completely destroys your gameplay, even when it works as intended. I could spend the next six hours noting every issue even when the game is working perfectly fine. But to save you the time, I'll just mention just one thing that gives you the quintessential preview of everything wrong.

Nearly every fighting game has this important camera feature: When two characters separate from each other, the camera steps back and zooms out so you can see both characters at the edge of the frame. Seeing their position is considered so important, that multiple independent developers do this. Super Smash Bros on the N64 does this. Samurai Showdown (1993) does this on the SNES.

Sonic Superstars does NOT do this. In the game where you are running at break-pace speed with 4 characters in super saturated backgrounds. Everything in this game lacks thought-through.

Do me a favor, buy Rayman Legends. That is what you are looking for.

Like others have said, the cost of a single experiment is your life. You'll be seeing the early game a lot. It'll take forever to get gold currency, which is necessary to come up with combinations the trailer shows you. And by the time you get the chance to try something, the perk/item gets wasted.
I'm sure it's fun for some that like to karate chop different rocks to see the insides. But it takes too much time to get to the good part.

Only the first chapter was good. Everything else pass that is a slow decent into ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's the classic case of the writers having the amazing ability to write intros and set ups, but unable to commit and make major decisions for the lore. By the time you make it to the end, you'll be begging for it to be over from how terribly annoying the whole thing gets.

Early Access Review
Game has a great balance of simplicity and complexity. It also gives you all the good tools and data to make a good job and go far. I can't wait fort the next update.

Puzzles are beyond cryptic, tedious, and overlap with each other in bad ways.
