Early Access Review
don't play this game it turns you into a MASOCHIST and a Bottom

Score: 10/10 --> 9.99/10
  • The game itself is fine, it's just strange for New Blood to lock the true ending behind this physical DRM? [newbloodstore.com]
  • (DRM = "Dakimakura-Required Mayhem").

Honestly the game had some good tricks and a lot of work put into it, but it really didn't do it for me. Changing the gameplay up to throw a curveball at the player is one thing, but this game was all over the place in a BAD way. The conveyance was terrible--several parts gave no indication of an objective (or no way to achieve it), leaving me high and dry and forced to rely on a walkthrough. I loved the game mechanic IDEAS the devs were experimenting with but unfortunately they weren't implemented correctly.

Apart from gameplay, the game still had deep-rooted issues with a plot that was confusing and unreadable. I understand this is meant to be some surreal mind-bending social critique but the writing was weak as hell and the dialogue frankly pathetic.

The player's character Anthony had NO substance whatsoever and I hated having to drag the manchild everywhere. His voice acting was worse. (Keep trying man but your emotions were poorly conveyed if at all and I was distracted by how many pops and other low-quality mic cues came through your audio. I'd love to see your future work though because I can see some potential.).

But seriously, who the heck wrote his dialogue? "pedophilic ♥♥♥♥♥♥"?? There was literally NO point for that and it overstepped some bounds that I know will have offended many players. Anthony was absolutely one of the most pathetic characters I've had to play and I do not connect with him or empathize in any way.

And seriously I don't care if it's a spoiler--basing your entire acid-trip of a finale on a completely unrelated half-baked plot twist is bad enough, but when the best plot twist you can come up with is incest? Where? did? that? come? from??? I've seen better endings in 1980's B horror movies.

The one and ONLY redeeming quality of this game was Vinny. Vinny's beyond stellar voice actor lent the character life that shone above the rest of the sub-par game and gave an energy to it that helped me hang on through the worst and most uninteresting parts. He was fascinating and entertaining, and everything a good antagonist needs to drive a game forward. Despite how frankly awful an experience it was playing this game, Vinny kept me so intrigued that I kept going like "Yeah man I hate Anthony too. I'll just stick around to see you kick his ass." Literally Vinny is the only reason I finished this game. Which means serious kudos to Raymund Vincent Ferrer, but man do the game devs have WORK to do.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So if I had to rate this game, I'd split it into three parts:

Gameplay: 6/10 -- Had potential, but poorly executed
Writing: 1/10 -- There is in fact a difference between good WTF and bad WTF
Voice Acting: 11 out of 10 Vinny. 11 out of 10.

So no I don't recommend this game, but I'll recommend the heck out of Raymund Vincent Ferrer's mad voice skills.
Save yourself a bad playthrough and like his FB page until he gets a blog or a Youtube.
